Alshon Jeffery to Panthers?

Yeah yeah i know its early and i know this is a bleacher report but hey i love the pick!

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/855918-2012-nfl-mock-draft-where-will-alshon-jeffery-end-up

In the event of rookie QB Cam Newton shredding NFL defenses for over 400 yards in each of his first two games, the only real receiving threat is veteran Steve Smith.

Yes, he does have two solid TEs in Jeremy Shockey and Greg Olsen, but the need of another stud WR is crucial to the continuing success of this offense.

With that in mind, the Carolina Panthers will pick Alshon Jeffery, WR from South Carolina in the 2012 NFL Draft.

I think he would be a good compliment to Steve Smith. I like him a lot.

He may not have much YAC yardage, but he catches everything. I will take that over a guy with pretty combine numbers.

I see him as a Keyshawn Johnson type guy.

I see Blackmon as far better, I'd take Floyd, Toon, Broyles and a few others first. He reminds me of Mike Williams of USC.

Also, rather than just a compliment to Smith I'm looking for an eventual replacement.

Alshon is clearly far and away the best Receiving prospect in this class, but unfortunatley, Blackmon is better suited to this offense. The thing with Blackmon is that he is boom or bust. He may be good, or he may bust very, very bad. Floyd I would not touch with a ten foot pole. Beyond that, just a bunch of guys in this year's class that we should have no desire for.

My Bold Prediciton. We will not draft a single WR. Atleast I wouldn't with how many draft picks we have invested in them the past couple years. Steve Smith can be our #1 for another 2-3 years after this season, and well still have lafell, legedu, pilares, edwards and Gettis, who I think could be our next #1 a few years down the road if he recovers fully from his injury Lafell could and should be our #2.

I am positive that the people who talk down about Alshon do not watch the Gamecocks play. Stats don't tell the story. Before Stephen Garcia was kicked off the team, he was the QB throwing the ball to Alshon. That should tell you enough right there. Garcia couldn't hit the broad sign of a barn with a beach ball standing five feet away. Then Shaw came in and showed that he could get the ball to Alshon. However, two HUGE injuries hurt Alshon's case. First to Kyle Nunn, the LT and leader of the OL, and then to Lattimore. Before those two injuries teams had to stack the box to stop Lattimore and had to blitz to get to Shaw leaving Alshon open. That worked great, but didn't even last an entire game before Nunn got hurt and then Lattimore went down the next game. Now the USC OL is absolutely hideous and even though Brandon Wilds, the RB taking over for Latti is pretty good, teams have just started rushing four and dropping everyone back in coverage with a CB and a S specifically on Alshon. The sad thing is that even with only rushing 4 the DLs are completely manhandling USC's OL and Shaw can't get the ball to Alshon in double coverage.

Now, as for the people talking about his YAC...it doesn't help that he gets a ton of jump balls and not much else (go back to the QB and OL problems) or the fact that he gets those stupid bubble screens to pick up about 3 or 4 because he's having to drag defenders when the other WRs won't block. If you think he is slow and is incapable of breaking off long runs then watch his 70+ yard catch (was about a 15 yard catch and he put on the after burners) against Tennessee last year, the entire Auburn regular season game last year, and his 80 yard catch against Arkansas two years ago where he got behind 3 DBs and took off. He's not the fastest guy, but he's easily the best possession receiver in the draft (I'd go as far as to say he is better than Larry Fitzgerald and Sidney Rice too) and he has a decent amount of speed...enough to pull away from defenders when he gets some room.

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone is going to read this because it is "too long".

I'll admit I haven't watched Jeffery a whole lot but does he have nfl speed? I've never seen him get good separation. SEC or not, it seems like NFL DBs would be stuck all over him.

In a word: yes.

The guy can drive down the field fast. 4.4 is his hi 40 time, with an average in the lo 4.5's. Blackmon is a tad faster accelerator, but Jeffery certainly has the speed to run by DB's and then some. Those long legs on that 6'4" frame certainly help too.

    • It wasn’t completely his fault, but outside of two throws and one or two scrambles he didn’t do much to help. His accuracy was all over the place, numerous passes that were placed poorly and didn’t give the receiver a good chance to catch the ball or do anything with it after. He also continues to display terrible pocket awareness. Even the sacks could have been avoided, they weren’t immediate like the pressure we got on Shough at times. Bryce just often has no feel for pressure and stands there waiting to get sacked after numerous seconds have passed.
    • I really fuging hate this era in so many ways.  I look at those Adin Ross and Neon kids, and I just wonder why tf are they famous?  Why would anyone be desperate enough to gain THAT audience that they’d risk money, career, disciplinary action to go up there and associate with those fuging dweebs?  And back in my day, racist peers got their ass beat.  And not endorsing or approving bully culture, but checks and balances and all…  had those two been bullied, or at the very least humbled, they wouldn’t be famous and glorified for being the fuging idiots they are now.  It seriously pisses me off… they both have done and said multiple, openly racist stuff and major media keeps pushing them, talking about them, and propping them up… and then dummies like Puka who don’t need the platform or exposure lend their celebrity to them.  fuging idiot… and even the other streamers, I don’t get - Speed, Kai…  I don’t understand making nobodies famous at all, but there is at least entertainment value to some degree there, and I could see how young, impressionable kids would find them something to aspire to (sadly), or view as “cool.”  But Ross and Neon?  They’re just shitty, shitty nerds with big ass mouths. I’ve went back recently and watched some classics (in two very different eras and categories 😂)  like Robocop and Idiocracy.  And what I find fascinating is how both movies illustrate how stupid society became by showing what the citizenry is entertained by.  In both, society became anti-intellectual and the citizenry were entertained by lowest denominator, primal-type absurdity - poo like, “Ouch! My Balls!”  Or on Robocop, a guy is a watching a show where they are smashing cakes on ladies’ breasts and then a guy says a line as the camera zooms in like, “I’d buy that for a dollar!” and the audience thinks it’s hilarious.  That’s where I feel like we are now.  Like who watches that clip with Puka and thinks any of that poo is funny or cool?  If I was Puka, I’d honestly be wondering why tf I’m hanging out with these beta ass, racist, cretin ass weirdos.
    • 7 wins this year and some of those against really good teams and yall think Canales might get fired? Lol Good luck getting a better coach in here if that happens.
