Soooo, Pilares?

Haven't heard many talk about that kick return. Pretty nice to see.

First return in 134 games? Since 2003? Yikes.

Hope to see Pilares on the field more often. Kid is fast, has the ability to make some plays. With the season winding down, think it is time to take LA out some more and insert Pilares or AE. Get these guys some real play time, see what we have.

I would have liked to have seen him at least get out to the 25 or 30 on his next kickoff returns. I think he had two after his return for a touchdown, and both times he ran into a wall of defenders short of the 20 yard line IIRC. Strange, since we normally have such great ST protection...

That being said, the dude did something that no one has been able to do here in almost a decade so kudos to him. Clearly this gives him a leg up when it comes time to "evaluate who really wants to be here" as Rivera put it.

not sure if serious...

You guys remember Mark Jones doing punt returns for us a few years ago? He ran in slow motion too but was still our most consistent punt returner since Smitty.

I always thought Jones was pretty decent. How about we put Smitty back at PR, no way he could get TD called back on a holding call.

I do remember Jones, he wasn't spectacular but was very consistent...

Jones was slow as sh*t, lol. Pilares is fast, as you saw up until he reached the kicker yesterday, lol. It looked like he started getting rubber legs towards the end of the run and lost momentum when he juked the kicker. I'm just happy he was able to finish it out.

Maybe he was just tired... but yeah, after about 50 yards he looked like he was about done.

i like what he did and it was exciting to watch since it had been so long since i've seen someone on the panthers pull it off.

not ready to crown him yet, though.

STs coordinator for the lions is danny crossman. THE worst ST coach that has every existed.

i am anxious to see if he (and special teams) can build on this.

for once they weren't an embarrassment. i'd still like to see them do the same against non-crossman led STs.

    • I don't necessarily think he will be moved, I would currently be leaning against that notion. I think a lot will depend on the coaching situation. Carroll certainly can't be thinking about wanting to go through a serious strip down and overhaul, so the longer he plans to remain, the less likely I think Crosby gets moved.
    • I think everyone says Mike Evans because of size, but really they have different strengths and play styles.  Tmac is better on intermediate routes and not nearly as good at contested catches.
    • At this point, it is criminal to go into the 2026 training camp/OTA's with XL penciled in as a #2 WR. The team must upgrade, either through free agency or the draft. If he cannot give 100% effort on significantly less snaps as a #4-6 WR(players like Tremayne have done that consistently) then I don't think you have a player worth rostering beyond the trade deadline. Offensively, we eventually have to upgrade to an NFL starting caliber C. It's been almost the length of time from Gross to Ikey since Kalil retired and we have below average to terrible C play. Love Mays as a BC-esque utility backup but he will never be an above average long term starting C.  The TE room is one of the worst in the NFL but it's a low usage position in this offense, so the investments are likely to be small, if any. I would never expect to see an elite TE in a Dave Canales offense. 100% agree on OL depth. We actually aren't bad there but BC will be gone, Mays is a UFA, Corbett is a UFA and Zavala has been both injured and bad. We have to bolster that depth again or resign guys like Mays and Corbett to keep that depth somewhat stable.
