Smith backs Newton's comments

Just like I have said from the beginning, Smitty is 100% behind Newton as are Rivera and the coaches. Players who believe in this mentality like Shockey have been brought in to be the majority not the minority. It is going to be jump on board or you will be replaced by someone who will. We haven't had a fiery quarterback who hated to lose since Jake imploded. It also marks the last time we had a winning record back in 2008. I frankly am glad to see it and wonder how you can be a professional football player whose job it is to win and not hate losing.

Good point about Jake....was essentially 2 different QBs here. And I am not talking about ability to throw the ball. There was a time when Jake would explode on the field and sideline....he would beg and cry over every play on the field. Some opposing fans found it funny or annoying.....but it showed how badly Jakw wanted to win at one point. Jake lost that edge.....Jake became just a great guy

the team under fox had become far too complacent. the goal wasn't to dominate. it was to just not lose and hopefully be just good enough and just better than average. there was no striving for excellence and excuses were made on a regular basis for losses or just simply dismissed with an "it is what it is" apathetic atmosphere. the guys were just happy to be there..and getting paid, of course.

rivera has been given the charge of rebuilding this team and it isn't just personnel he's having to upgrade, it's the team's personality that he's trying to. he's trying to develop a 2-14 team that was given to him and that development involves mindset as much as anything.

the right fits for this team isn't going to be just talent...it's going to be talent + hunger to win. some guys already fit that mold. some guys can be molded. the rest can be replaced. cam and smitty are essential to building that. same with beason on defense. don't forget, beason called out peppers so you have to know he's going to be doing that to the rest of the guys as well.

I see two things going on here: The media don't see Cam has a franchise or an elite QB, therefore he has no right calling out his players in anyway and the Panthers is not an elite team like the Pats, Colts, and GB. Heck, I seriously believe they see the Jags as better than the Panthers. Really, how many games have that team played that has been aired on national tv? They even have another one coming up on NFLN soon. Yet, not one of the Panthers games are pass the local channels.

This team has been in a losing mode for a very longtime and it shows. They seriously need to snap out of it and here's hoping Cam's comments would do the opposite of what the media was hoping for. Here's hoping it would light a fire under the defense and another player's ass to want to finish out this season strong and show the world that they support their QB and respect their team

IMO, the media's bais and respect is so telling.
