Butler vs. Jones

UNC-T

Recommended Posts

Was at the game, and remember two things happens with this matchup:

1) Butler getting picked on at one point in the redzone, and batting down like 4/4 passes in a row.

Bad-ass.

2) The Julio Jones TD catches.

How many catches were his fault vs. the safety?

Is Butler redeemable (as a Nickel)?

I feel like the answer should be yes, but that still doesn't help us at the #2 CB next year.

He didn't do terrible, but I'd rather have Claiborne on the outside. Having Gamble is great but he doesn't matter that much when teams don't even have to look his way because of Munnerlyn and Butler. I like him, but Captain really shouldn't be more than a dime corner on a good defense.

Hogan is killing me. If he's good, I'd like a secondary of Gamble, Claiborne, Hogan, Butler and Munnerlyn in that order. They could be good behind a strong pass rush.

The only thing that kept butler from shutting Jones down was the one long TD pass. He could have made the tackle and Martin SHOULD have made the tackle but like we have seen all year, Martin takes terrible angles. If you watch the play Martin plowed into Butler not Jones resulting in Jones running down the field with no one around him. Terrible safety play.

what i dnt understand is do defensive coaches not believe in double coverage anymore, i mean wtf, yes week 1-5 i can understand but after you have solid tape on a player there shouldn't be a reason they beat a secondary...........to be honest yeah didn't have a problem with the d yesterday sas far a s a gameplan but what i do have a problem with is if you see that there goin to julio why not double him?.........Bulter did a good job yesterday, Martin is just a weak saftey, notice there wasn't any big plays on gamble and godfrey side....smh

Who cares. I gauruntee that Captain Munnerlyn and Bulter will not be on the team next year. The only CB we will keep will be Gamble. I'd put money on that.

guarantee it, huh?

Care to put a wager on that? I would bet that Gamble, Munnerlyn, and Hogan are all on the team next year.

Put up, or shut up.:D

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
