Fox was pretty consistent in his first few years here. I'm talking about the immediate future. They are likely to make the playoffs this year and have a good chance of doing so again next year. They may not have sustained success over 5 years or w/e, but I would be surprised if they took a massive step back next year.

First, I agree we will be much improved next year and you're right about Rivera producing good defenses, unfortunately his DC has no such history. However, being much improved won't necessarily translate to having all that many more wins or being in a better position to make a playoff run than the Broncos.

How many years did Fox have back to back winning seasons in 9 seasons here?

McDermott was a DC for 2 years before coming here. All three years (2 in philly and 1 here) he has had to deal with numerous injuries to his linebacking group. Unfortunately that unit is the key to the defense. At this point he has not the talent to run his defense and has watered it down by necessity. Lets see what happens next year. Given we have led in the second half in 12 of 13 games and will have an easier schedule next year, I think we are much closer to a winning team that you apparently do. As for the Broncos, they have won so many games in overtime or on the last drive they could just as easily be 4-9 themselves right now. Teams seem to magically implode to help them win. I don't think you can count on that every year.

Yep, Smitty may be here five years from now, and waving bye bye to Cam when he bolts.
