How did that work out for tampa bay?

McCoy and Price have not managed to stay healthy since they have been drafted by Tampa and Clayborn had a good year for a rookie not to mention they had NOBODY on there line before they even drafted any of those guys we already have one of the best DEs in the league to jump start us. Couples and the rest have been healthy during there college runs.

Start thinking about trading back from our spot and get sme more picks. A lot of times you draft players and expect your #1 pick to be a starter from day one. Right now we need a quality starter at MULTIPLE positions on defense.

I don't see TD coming back to start at OLB for us again. Hate to say it because he had probowl ability but his injuries just held him back. We need an impact OLB and right now we have two NFL quality LBs on this team and need one more. So, IMO OLB is an option in the first round especially if we trade back. Or move Beason outside and draft a guy like Keuchly to play the middle.

DT and just any type of player that can get pressure on the passer is a big need. Right now we have two that do it well and the rest of our team sucks at it. As we saw against the Saints if either Hardy or Johnson goes down then we have no pass rush and it will kill us again next year if it doesn't get addressed. As much as I dislike Quentin Coples (he slacked BIG TIME this year) he will probably be an option. I don't know if there is a pure DT that is worth taking in the first. I'm not a big fan of taking DTs that high because IMO you don't get a return on your investment and they often leave and end up being good for their 2nd team. Gotta be a real special player to be good as a rookie.

CB is a need although maybe not as much of a need as I thought earlier this year. If Hogan really is good enough to be a starter and Darius Butler can come along then we'll have 3 solid CBs. I'm still not a Captain Munnerlyn believer.

WR isn't really a "need" but if we couldn't find a trade partner and Justin Blackmon was sitting there then I wouldn't be made if we took him. He has everything you look for (size, speed, hands, routes) and also did some PR for OKSt earlier in his career. He would be an instant upgrade there and with Blackmon, LaFell, Gettis, and Olsen you have your receiving corp of the future after Smitty retires.

fug it if Blackmon is there (doubtful) take him. Then go cb in the second. Smith Lafell Gettis Blackmon yes please. It will help the offensive line forcing softer coverages giving Williams and Stewart more room to work. Hopefully Beason and Edwards returns make the defense competent. The offense will be straight nasty.

Players I'd avoid

Alabama, CB, Dre Kirkpatrick - Mainly because I don't think there's much value in taking him with the 9th pick when we can get just as good CBs in the 2nd. Dre's hype is based off potential and physical attributes. He is physical no doubt. But big hits don't win you ball games.

Boston College, LB, Luke Kuechly - Not able to play OLB and just not fast enough. Angles and having a "nose" for the ball can only get you so far in the NFL. Just look at Dan Connor, not a bad player but not 1st round worthy or starter material.

Players I like (not at 9th overall)

N.Alabama, CB, Janoris Jenkins - Off the field issues have been a problem for Jenkins, but on the field he might be the best cover corner in this class. He is aggressive in run defense and can play effectively in bump and run or with cushion.

Oklahoma St, S, Markelle Martin - We need a FS. The one we have is hesitant when it comes to tackling, something that is Markelle Martin's strong suit. He is also good in coverage playing some slot CB when needed.

Vanderbilt, CB, Casey Hayward - Another CB prospect that has much higher value than taking Kirkpatrick with the 9th overall. Good at breaking up passes and is a good tackler.

The problem is we are out of the running of both Kalil and Claiborne, two players that I wanted in the 1st (was realistic until our strong finish). I am still undecided on who should target in the first. I don't like too many and haven't seen enough of the defensive lineman that I would consider with our 9th pick.

Ideally, I would want to trade back for 2 later picks in the first.

there are no allegations UNC is facing involving Coples

the sideline antics proves nothing.

there is nothing noted anywhere like I thought. You are just making poo up. Coples has drawn a double and the offense has run away from him for the majority of each snap he has taken on defense this season for a reason. Who gives a fvck about Derek Anderson? Stop talking out of your ass and people may start taking your comments seriously.

lol.

U UNC fans mad?

Who will be gone when we pick? I think we can agree at this point that the following 5 will not be available for us at 8/9.

Luck

Kalil

Claiborne

RG III

Blackmon

Now, from 6-10. It is anyone's guess at this point. Combine will help solidify, but right now, we are all just guessing who the 6th best is, much less the 9th.

What would we trade back for, though?

Meaning, who in the Draft is worth another team trading up x amount of slots, as well as giving up their 2nd and/or 3rd round pick for? That's not anyone.

If Barkley would've declared, maybe. Some how we could've convinced a team to trade up for Landry Jones, or something. But, as it stands, who would trade up? And why?

    • I've been hearing all about this "winning culture" for years while watching us piss away top shelf draft position with meaningless late season wins when we're already eliminated from the playoffs but being assured this is building "winning culture" just to inevitably suck again next year. With that said, I'll always take a playoff berth. Just make the dance and you have a chance to make some noise. But spare me the "winning culture" bullshit.
    • Winning culture trumps ALL.    Here’s my way to long take:  Last season this team started out breaking the sports books and being the lead pipe lock of the week. They finished by being a tough out for both SB teams.  I don’t think they’ll pick up right where they left off, but for the first time in years they’re on the legitimate upswing. Honest to God NFL talent has been infused.  Offense is already going to be good for 2-3 more 3rd down conversions (I don’t think anyone will argue that) a game over last year so I’ll go (very optimistically) 5-6 more points better than last year’s team. ADDED: A legit backup RB and a money WR who catches everything, along with 2 promising rooks. No significant losses (sorry Miles). KEYS: Can Dave bob and weave play calling if things aren’t working? Does protection continue to hold for Bryce. Did this team pick up dudes who know how to find the end zone or will the struggle of 3rd and goal continue.  Defense. If they can force even 2 (hopefully 3) more stops a game on third down (not asking a lot, hopefully more), that’s good for -4 (optimistic) points for opposing teams.  ADDED: legit run stuffers. Legit (appearing) edge guys. LOST: Clowney. Question: With legit 3-4 talent can Evero finally show what we have been VERY patiently waiting on? To me, EVERYTHING on defense hinges on Evero. Everything. Every position group was upgraded (still not good enough, but certainly improved).  Losing Brown early and Luvu… completely and utterly devastated the run defense. Luvu put up one of the best seasons at LB this team has ever seen. His under appreciation by some fans was criminal. He alone was our 3 down stop machine. Brown was pretty much it up front. Those 2 held RBs in check long enough for safety help to arrive.  Coaching: Halftime adjustments and no prevent defense. In a nutshell, that’s pretty much it. No cutesy offense to show off WRs/Bryce when it’s not working. Use your sledgehammers, Dave.  There is finally veteran leadership and legit NFL talent. It’s going in the right direction (I couldn’t have been more wrong last offseason) to build a winning culture, but teams have to learn how to win, especially the games where nothing is going right (this team has NEVER been able to do that). They will still lose more close games than they win, and that alone is where it all hinges.
    • With his current level of play I'm quite content to not activate his 5th year option and let him walk away for free after year 4.
