Stew says he'd love to stay a panther long term

Williams doesn't need to restructure and they will keep Stewart. He will be given a new contract sometime during 2012. Williams contract is front loaded for 2011 and 2012. It is reasonable after that and was devised with the idea of keeping Stewart when his contract expires after the 2012 season.

We have to resign Steve Smith too, restructuring maybe needed.

friendship is one thing and business is another, assuming that DeAngelo would just let millions leave his pocket so they can keep Stewart on roster is absurd.... They can be the best of pals even if Stewart was with the Bills then if they played for the same team.

Players do it all the time. I don't think it's out of the question. In fact, if D-Will doesn't restructure, that could mean when it's time to give Jonathan a contract, we could release DeAngelo. And I doubt another team will give DeAngelo a big contract when he's over 30 years old. All in all, DeAngelo will maximize the amount of money he will make with us, even if we restructure his contract.

Smith already counts over 7 million to the cap. In 2013 we can likely resign him with no more cap hit than present. Backload it so we will have plenty of money when the television contract bumps the cap up a lot.

When players restructure they don't lose money. They usually get their money up front in a signing bonus which is spread out over the life of the remaining contract for cap purposes. So they get more money not less but because the yearly salary for that season goes down and the signing bonus is spread out, the cap hit is less.

Resigning the older of the two backs (by 4 years) and letting the younger player go would be one of the dumber moves of Hurney's career. If he was going to let a RB walk he shoulda done it last year with Deangelo. You don't let the guy with younger legs and just as much talent walk away.

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
    • Totally possible imo, I also caught that snippet from Morgan where he said “If” we sign him. The lack of competition says otherwise tho 🤷‍♂️
