Marty has been on record that we will only sign 2 impact FA.

"Impact" is such an objective word. Especially with a guy who used to be beat writer.\

Impact for you/me: Carl Nicks, Vincent Jackson, Laron Landry, Cortland Finnegan

Impact for Marty: Vonnie Holiday, Roberto Garza, Some dude named John

PS: For the record, and I told my GF watching the Bal/NE game with a bunch of Pats fans, I want Ladarius Webb.

we spent more money in free agency last year than any other team

we're heading into this offseason already over the cap, before we even resign any of our own players, add guys to fill out the roster, or sign our draft picks

we are one of the top teams as far as money counted toward the cap for the next 3 years

it doesn't seem like we went free agent crazy because we didn't add that many guys, we just massively overpaid a few players as i said

and fwiw the redskins now without snyder running things are actually starting to get their cap in decent shape

You act as if restructuring can't fix that, Raiders re-structured Richard Seymour's contract and cleared 11 million in cap.

yeah, the last offseason was ape poo crazy (see Charles Johnson's contract), but this one needs to be strategic and organized.

It is also likely to be quiet. I know everyone wants up to spend bigtime on defense but it isn't going to happen. We might bring in a FA corner or free safety. Maybe a Sam linebacker. Otherwise it will be through the draft and perhaps bringing in a few value picks. We frankly have the majority of the guys that are going to be on defense already here. It is up to the coaches to take the guys we have and make them better. That is what they get paid to do.

It all depends on how the draft plays out first and foremost. If we ****** up all defensive additions with the first few picks...I don't think a FA will be a necessity but if we don't end up with a d-line or safety addition near the top, let's then give the FA lot a good look.

I'm sure it will be after Mr.Richardson made it rain for two weeks.

I understand a mid-level/low level signing at LB, OL.....but at DT/CB/S.....they got to make some noise at 2 out of those 3 choices.

I'm not saying there aren't some names on the list I wouldn't love to have on the team, it's just not how we operate.

As a matter of fact, how many teams that are successful year in and year out are major players in FA?

I dont care if we are major players, I just wish we would play... I understand we got burnt a few times but Lucas was one hell of a signing and IMO made us a very good team. Even the Packers who are a draft juggernaut went out and got one of the best CBs of all time.

raiders cap is still a mess. you can only fix so much and you can't restructure a signing bonus (which we paid out over 100 million in SBs last offseason)

even making some positive moves what i said is still our situation starting off. you could make those same moves with a ton of cap space and have even more.

we're going to have to make some cut/restructures just to get under the cap so we're not penalized by the league

then we're going to have to make more cut/restructures to be able to resign our own low end free agents (hangman, shockey, d.anderson, senn, ect)

then we'll have to clear even more space to be able to sign our own draft picks .... LOL

at what point does it become painfully obvious that we won't be able to sign any decent free agents?

not to mention we spent more than anyone last year and the only outside acquisition that made any decent impact was shockey, who garnered almost no attention as a FA and signed a cheap one year deal so he could reestablish his value

Lets sign the younger steve smith so we have them both on our team

The younger Steve Smith is actually named DeSean Jackson. If Marty had testicular fortitude he would sign him. You have Cam Newton!...Cam Newton!

If I were Hurney I would sign one big free agent, that would be Jackson, I'd draft a stud DE and DT with the 1st & 2nd and get a ST specialist like Michael Bates and another DT like Edwards (but healthy) and maybe another weak side LB. That would = Super Bowl so Hurney wouldn't do that.

You got Cam Newton. You're holding a tiger by it's tail. You either feed that tiger or it's going to rip your house apart!

Jackson quit on his team, that's something I have never seen Smith do...

He's a young guy, they make mistakes, like punching out teammates. Just sayin'. He's the only guy I can think of that mirrors Steve Smiths explosiveness + Steve's 25yr old speed.

Quitting a team is much worse then getting into a fight at TC. Ask anyone that has been there and they will tell you there are fights every year on every team.
