Do we need another tight end?

Shockey is still productive but getting older and while I loved the Olsen acquisition I still feel as if there is more to be done. Most of everyone on the Huddle seems to love Bardinage and while I'm also excited to see him in the new system I think we need a star TE and if the opportunity presents itself we should act. TE's like Graham, Davis and Gronk are all MAJOR parts of their respected offenses. Now before this get's GIF approved please hear me out. Let's say we take a DE/OLB & a CB in the first and second round. Barring a trade that leaves us without a 3rd and onto our 4th. Now I've been watching Ladarius Green for quite sometime now and he has major potential. As of right now he's projected to go between round 4-6 but is likely to slip due to him being undersized 6-6 237. This dude is a play maker, matchup nightmare and is very fast for his size. Now the question is if he is there in the 4th/5th/6th do we pull the trigger?

I like where we're at at TE. Olsen isn't going to be a super star but he holds it down when he's in. If we resign Shockey he's adds so much to our offense , he's got fire, and leadership and he's a solid player. I'm happy with the two of them.

Don't think we need another TE. Shockey's still got some years left. Barnidge played well when given the chance. Give it at least 1 more year, then after next season if Shockey is done and Barnidge doesn't show that he can be a good #2 TE we can look at TEs in the next draft.

Gary barnidge is still on the team plus he just got extended. Don't be surprised if we don't re-sign shockey

I got the sense they might not sign him either. Honestly I think that would be a mistake. Shockey is twice the blocker that either Barnidge or Olsen is at this point and is a real tough presence in the locker room. If we are going to build an aggressive offense, then Shockey is perfect in that role.

Funny. I never thought I would be defending Shockey before this year.

I thought Gary showed some promise. I love the co-canes as our primary te's but I would love another playmaker. I thought we should have gotten te's in every draft for the past 9 years. Hmmmm... Odd how long was fox here again? Oh yea.... 9 fuggin tight endless years!!!!!!

barnidge has done less in his first four years than dwayne jarrett

yeah im sure with a different playbook he'll be a probowler and stuff

as a te yes but as a ST'er Barnidge is fantastic

yes I know that isn't relevant to the "do we need a TE" question lol, just saying. Barnidge shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as jarrett.

seeing guys like Gronkowski, Graham, etc completely dominate means if a good TE fell to us, absolutely yes I'd take one.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
