If we pass on DT in rounds 1 and 2 are we destined for failure on defense?

Not necessarily failure. I argue that there is not one dt that will significantly standout above what we have now. By mid season a couple of these guys will probably blossom but they could also have growing pains. Brockers has huge upside (apparently) but he will not be a world beater day one. Jury is still out on Poe and Still but I think Edwards would be a competent alternative.

Didn't u just post a much much longer thread saying the exact damned thing? This is why I refrain from signing in during the offseason, but for you I made an exception!

yes i did, but I specifically wanted to hear from Catsgrowl, P55,FIZ, Raging Bull and Killer Kat and anyone else who staunchly supports DT in the first 2 rounds. They may not go back to that thread. Just want to give them every opportunity to see and answer the question.

i would have no problems with that. i just dont see how a LB (4-3 LB)that does not go after the QB gets taken in the top 10 as bpa. no matter what scheme you run on defense it all starts up front with the DL.

he did what was asked him....and was the best LB in football.

he has the skill set where he can do whatever is needed. Upfront in this scheme and pressure means front 7, not front 4.

Well with just that knowledge this is a stupid question. Without knowing who the CB and DE are, how well and quickly they pick up the scheme and adjust to the NFL, whether they start or are situational, whether Beason and Davis come back, etc. there is no way to even have a good guess to answer the question.

    • Nobody on the huddle is saying we have an elite group offensively across the board. They aren't great. They're young. If you are expecting someone to agree with your position of blaming everyone around Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career you are going to be left holding the bag save for a handful of people who act like they are paid to defend his honor. Bryce Young is not a guy who has had to claw and fight his way into starting jobs in football. He's had the best to work with and been gifted roles since he was a teenager. The Panthers have one of the youngest rosters in the league and with us needing an infusion of young defensive talent in the upcoming draft we're only going to get younger. We need a QB who possesses the ability to elevate those around him. If you can't agree with me on that then there's nothing further to discuss.
    • All Bryce and the Panthers had to do was split with the Saints and a rookie QB. The bar was so low. They even had a whole bye week to prepare. The time for singing kumbaya was before that game. Anyone still talking about Bryce earning a second contract 43 games into his career is living a fantasy. He might get one from the Tepper owned Panthers but he's damn sure not earned it.
