The Claiborne Watch

Oh, I got no problem with whoever we pick even if it is a corner.

I've just been wary of high-pick corners for most of my middle-aged life. Neon Deion was a once in a life-time player.

i dont think it really matters who we pick as long as they end up being a quality starter on this team.

in terms of pure athleticism, peterson is an absolute freak. insane top end speed, burst add to the fact he's extremely large for a CB with good tackling technique and he's a homerun threat with the ball in his hands. coming out of college peterson reminded people of charles woodson.

in terms of pure measurables and potential, peterson is pretty much unmatched by any CB to come out of college in the past half decade (or more).

unfortunately none of that dictates if u will be a good corner or poor corner in the nfl. revis is considered the best CB in the game, yet he isn't known for being a physical freak. he's rather average sized for a corner and doesn't have an elite 40 time.

if claiborne is considered to be a more consistent, coverage oriented DB than PP7 was, then I'm all for getting him.

This. If an NFL coach sat down at a drawing board to design the perfect CB from a physical standpoint, he'd end up with Patrick Peterson. Peterson is a once in a lifetime CB prospect for a GM. Claiborne doesn't have Peterson's physical skills, but he's a better cover corner at this stage in their careers.

To me the Minnesota Vikings pose the biggest threat to take him at #3.

#3 Minnesota - Claiborne/Blackmon (reports they aren't impressed with Kalil) Their pass d was ranked one of the worst. Overpaid Carlson a TE. Need more weapons.

#4 Browns - Kalil They have Joe Hayden but have a need for a #2. Good draft for CBs though.

#5 Bucs - Trent Richardson I could also see them trading back to stock pile. Maybe Cincy wants to move up and grab Richardson. Bucs have Talib, Wright, Barber (hes been invited back)

#6 Rams - Blackmon if he's there...or Reiff. signed Finnegan to a huge contract

#7 Jaguars - Coples/Ingram Maroons when it comes to drafting. My fear is they are a possible trade up partner to snag a Claiborne

#8 Miami - I now see them taking A) Tannehill if available or B) Malcom Floyd

i disagree, i think the team that could get Claiborne is the Browns believe it or not, do i think it's a good move, oh, no, but i heard they are interested. i think in the end, the Vikings get Kalil, the Browns get Claiborne, then the Bucs get Richardson, then the Rams get Blackmon, the Jags get Coples and then i see Miami getting either Floyd or Wright, they need a WR badly now.

If Claiborne isnt as good as PP7 was then should he really be considered a top 5 pick? 6-8 seems to be the range if he's gonna go before us. I think Claiborne drops to us, 90% chance on my bullchittin around o' meter.

TBH I would be just as happy with Kirkpatrick as I would be with Claiborne. This is a good year if you need CB.

There is NO WAY Claiborne falls to us. NO WAY.
Well Aaron Rogers was suppose to go in the top 10 years ago in the draft. But he end up dropping to the packers at the 25th pick. So anything can happen to any of these top prospects right now. It all depends on the teams biggest need at the time.

Claiborne has better coverage skills than Peterson. I have said it a million times, Peterson was hyped because he was a great athlete and had return ability in both the defensive and ST games. Claiborne isn't the athlete Peterson is but his coverage skills are better.

    • I said could, not would. I recognize he has potential based on past performance. Compared to what KP has done, Howell has more potential and the physical traits to make noise. KP has small hands and a weak arm. Not something you want in even your backup QB.  I've been hammering since last off-season before we re-signed Dalton, improve the room. Other than getting younger, I don't see how anyone can say we legitimately improved the room or even tried. We might as well have signed Josh Rosen.  Dalton is still on the roster for now. That's 3 QBs unless we trade or cut him. He's still Bryce's mentor after all. Do you believe we are going to draft someone with potential and give them a legitimate opportunity to develop from the practice squad? Are we going to carry 3 QBs on the active roster? 4 for a developmental rookie? Are we going to potentially cut KP if we draft a rookie and he's outperformed? Doubtful. Cutting Dalton(if we can't trade him) and KP would be 8m in wasted cap space.  I chose Howell as an example because he showed promise in his only full season as a starter. You could plug in another name with the physical traits and potential and what i said would still apply. KP showed almost nothing and was benched. I genuinely don't care if it’s rookie pick as long as there is the potential to develop into a future NFL QB.  As much as I can't stand him, Bellichek was always developing a number 2 QB even with the GOAT as his starter. The wisdom of that was evident when Cassell came in when Brady was hurt week 1 and went 11-5 and almost made the wildcard, which 11-5 gets you almost any other year. I give credit where it's due though. Cassel and Jimmy G both came into the league as developmental QBs, potential QB1s, and went on to have careers.  You never know if you never try. KP feels like a punt in addressing the most important position on the field. Bryce has never played 2 full games of franchise QB level football back to back.  If Bryce progresses, are you ready to offer a 280m 5 year extension based off a one hit wonder year? If Bryce regresses and we need a QB in 27, are we going to trade a fortune away again to trade up to 1 to get one? Are you ready to do the past 3 years all over again?  To me, it's not about Kenny Pickett. It's about the move itself. It was a feeble attempt to improve the QB room. We better hope Bryce succeeds, because if he doesn't, we literally have no backup plan right now.
    • IOL that early isn’t good value at all. We have a LT who might not ever be good again and a RT that might retire soon. T seems deep early in this draft, so I’d go there in the 1st.
    • Season tickets aren't affordable anymore definitely when they've been so bad for 8 years before last season. When I started going my seats were front row uppers for like 38 bucks. Those seats are 100 dollars now. Teams make their money from tv, if I was an owner my goal would be to break even on tickets and concessions.
