Jstew For...

JStew's numbers last year: 142 att, 761 yds, 4 tds

Tobert's numbers the last year in Chud's offense: 182 att, 735 yds, 11 tds

They both run like bowling balls. They're pretty much the same age. They both play a position of median value. No reason to keep both.

I can agree with you here.

But I'd rather keep J-Stew and use him one last year in 2012 rather than flush his value down the toilet in a crap deal.

I would trade Stewart and our 2nd to Cleveland for their 4th. That would give us 2 top 10 picks and give them a stud RB and extra fairly high 2nd to help rebuild their team. Doubt they would pull the trigger on that but it would be a whole helluvalot better than giving up Stew just to move up 5 picks. Now maybe if they threw in a 3rd rounder it may be worth considering.

i can't help but think that this is madden logic. oh how i wish trades like this were that easy!

I agree, this would essentially be a contract year. So, it's in his best interest to perform at a high level. He also seems like the kind of cat that would do that anyways. The OP's proposed trade makes no sense.

To have a dangerous run attack with Cam as your QB you just need a RB who fits the read option stuff. That's it. The rest is just a bonus.

Losing Stewart effects the offense more than Williams. We probably lose Stewart....but losing him will impact things. On top of that, when Stewart walks Williams will then be in his 30s

Well, at first I thought it was retarded.

But, I believe Stew is worth a second rounder, with his contract situation.

So by that logic, it is a #9 + a 2nd rounder to move up to #4.

Not saying I would do it, but its not crazy. Especially if Minny gets Claiborne at #3 (even though i dont think they will).

If Matt Kalil is there, then this is a good deal for us.

Look, I love Stew... but if you can move up from the # 9 pick to the # 4 pick and all it costs you is a HB, you take it.

the problem that trade would have to go down before the draft. Stewart would have to be willing to sign a new deal with the Browns.....otherwise Clev would be renting him for 1 yr only

Stewart and our 4th round pick to the Browns for their #22 pick.............can then magically give Wallace from the Steelers the contract he is wanting, one the Steelers won't match. I say magically because there's no way we can afford Wallace. Then give that #22 pick to the Steelers.

I would agree if we were paying Tolbert more than fullback money. His contract will have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not we can re-sign Stewart.

We are a really good team with Stewart and Williams.

We are a really REALLY good team with Stewart, Williams, and Tolbert.

We are an ok team with just Williams and Tolbert.

No reason not to keep all three.

amen.

if there is some way contractually (without crippling the team) to keep them around we should. that should be the goal.

i've been saying it all along. build on and around the strengths that already exist here. we had one of the best running games in the league with just 34&28. adding cam's skills to the mix not only made us an incredibly respectable and dangerous passing team, but made our run games one of the most lethal.

adding tolbert brings added dimension. he will do great as a blocker. he's a great runner and incredibly good receiver...so he adds a lot to both parts of the offense. he makes what had been great even better. if we can shore up the OL a bit this year and next and add another WR i think this offense can be the best the league has seen. if we can keep the core of this team together for a couple more years, including 34/28/and superchunk, we absolutely should.

    • I felt pretty good about us making progress this season, surprising some people, and getting some more wins than last season going into it.  Now, after preseason, my expectations are much, much lower. I was talking with my friend who is a Bears fan, and we were discussing their drubbing of the Bills and how people try to dismiss it as “preseason, so it doesn’t count.”  It absolutely counts.  Not the wins or losses.  No one really cares about that.  But what the Bears are doing shows that even in a vanilla, non-specific scheme, they are executing at an elite level and they are disciplined.  It shows they are well coached.  They see growth in their players.  Versus us - hard to tell what we’re looking at because everything is a fuging mess.  In games we’re still undisciplined, be it penalties or assignments.  We do NOT execute.  We got random coaches calling plays that won’t be calling plays during the season, we have our players getting into fights in the last padded practice of the preseason, then we have Bryce and Chuba trying to correct it while our coach sat off to the side laughing.  To be clear, I like Canales.  He seems like a good dude.  But, it feels like we have very little direction and discipline.  You’re allowing a team who has been historically bad the last almost decade, with a losing culture that mostly bereft of talent to self-police?  You’re allowing subordinates to work in pet projects at the expense of getting valuable reps and evaluation of players in during games?     My friend literally brought up last night that when Ben Johnson got there he essentially put DJ Moore in notice because it was starting to be perceived that he was displaying some diva-behavior.  That’s leadership.  And they’re reaping the benefits early and setting a tone.  My friend said there is an excitement and confidence in and around their team that’s he’s never felt his entire life.  And here we are, sounding and looking like The Bad News Bears in our final week of training camp and preseason.  I literally stopped watching after halftime last week.  I used to watch every play faithfully, even in 2001 and 2010.  It was fun.  This isn’t.  We are bad and our administration keeps making bad decisions to compound things.  Reading poo like this today is just fuging deflating.
    • With so much of the focus the past couple years being on offense, the defense has definitely taken a backseat to the talent available in the draft. I get it, they want to surround their number one draft pick QB with offensive playmakers but unfortunately that has come with a price that so far has not worked Let’s hope the offense and Bryce Young put it together this year or it’s going to be another rebuild next year with another new QB.
    • I was intrigued by him but always said it comes down to the interview process and talking to his former coaches, etc. You gotta find out if he's coachable and has the mental makeup. I think we've found the answer. LOL
