Reed: Source says not even one offer for Pep to date

1- not a screw up if they never had any intention of letting him go for less than 2 first rounders.

2- panthers aren't allowed to talk to any teams about peppers.....duh?!?!?! of course no teams have called carolina about him. they are supposed to be calling carey...who probably should have let teams have his number.

I tried to find a smiley for hitting the nail on the head, but I couldn't.

Why they overspent on him.

Did they? The whole thing about the Franchise Tag is that they pay him the average of the top 5 DE's or 20% more of what he was making the year before, whichever is more. Most top notch DE's get close to that kind of money, why did they overspend?

Can't say I'm happy about it either, but that doesn't change what it is...

Next year. I'll agree with you, this year, no...

Even if they were talking to other teams(and it wasn't a violation) they'd want it on the down low for drafting strategy purposes. Teams know what the panthers need(especially if Peppers gets traded for picks). If the panthers hopped up into the first round someone else looking Defensive Line would then try and hop ahead of them to get the guy they wanted.

there is a certain phrase in ^^that post^^ that makes me chuckle a little considering the subject matter.

Pepp will sign the tender tomorrow, just before the draft.

New England is trying to move into the top 10. If they are successful, they can offer that and a 3rd (or next year's first) for Pepp. The Panthers then get a top 10 draft pick tomorrow.

Speculation, for sure, but Peter King is indicating that the Patriots are trying to move up to either the 8th, 9th or 10th position. Darin stated that the buzz is that the Panthers will pick before their 2nd round selection. The pieces are starting to come together. With the Pats, Pepper's agent and the Panther's front office in the mix, it's no wonder the information flow is tight as a crab's ass (and that's water tight!).

It's amazing everyone posting in this thread so far has things figured out better than the guy that actually wrote the article... other than Squirrel I mean... but that goes without saying :D

Not surprising... I'm in disbelief that he published this article.

and let me restate for the record... anyone posting "a source close to" is full of poo anyhow.

I would much more prefer there 3 2nd round choices. If we hit on just 2 of those and have some quality depth with the others, it could set us up for the next 3 to 4 years.

Got to remeber alot of disinformation is being sent out by teams right now. Here is my honest opinion on Peppers.

To me he isnt worth all the money he made the past few years but with that said teams like him and when he is motivated he can be great. I honestly there is a deal already in play and bothe the Panthers and Patriots are keeping it quiet. We will find out tomorrow but wouldnt be surprised if when it all is said is done Peppers is a Patriot and the Patriots will make atleast one pick for us and trade it to us along with another pick.

And he got 20% more then last year because he was already getting more then the average of the top 5. And considering if he signs his tender he will be the highest paid def player in the NFL (even over Haynesworth) and probably among the top 5 paid players in the NFL period. All this for a guy with consistency issues yeah I call that overspending.
