Panthers Apparently "love" Luke Kuechly

Great point, if Dareus can't make a significant impact in his first year, how is Cox, Brockers, or Poe supposed to make an impact?

Yeah, um...why don't you check out the last 30 or so DTs drafted in round 1 and look at the impact they had year 1.

Also, Dareus wasnt bad....it just isn't a position you see many ready. None of these guys are a Dareus either.

Great I'd love to use a 1st round pick on a back up

How is he a backup. Or are you one is those cute little dreamers who thinks Davis can play....Beason will be ready this year....and that Anderson is better.

Luke starts if drafted.

Panthro you seem to be smarter than some.If Beasons explosiveness is diminished by 15% next year is that enough for him to start? If not or he aggregates his injury coupled with the Davis history of acl tears how do we address that.I know your opinion on drafting a lb in the first and respect your point.Who do we add to address this? Just curious...... Personally I like Luke do not feel he would help our pass rush .and respect you opinion on how to address this.

Thing we have to realize with our linebacker situation is Beason's coming off an Achilles tear and Davis is trying to come back from a 3rd acl tear. As much as I like Thomas Davis, we can't depend on him coming back and starting 16 games. I'm a much larger fan of grabbing a DE with #9 but I'm sure Rivera and Hurney know more about the Panthers than I do.

Drafting Luke makes as much sense as drafting Trent Richardson.

Every says we should plan for them to get injured. What the hell happens if they do not get injured? If Beason is full strength do we move him to WLB? Can a rookie dictate moving a Pro Bowl LB?

Me...I do not see the separation between him and the other linebackers that can be had this year. People show me his tackling stats and I say BFD. Good to great LBs can be had later in the draft. Zach Brown, David, Kendricks can all step in and be drafted in the second round.

Did anyone watch Captain last year? Or how our DTs were gouged and the DEs couldnt set the edge. Look at successful teams like the Giants where do they put a priority?

I think Luke would be a signal that the Panthers are very concerned with covering Jimmy Graham.

However, I only want a LB at #9 if he is the next Clay Matthews.

Not only Jimmy Graham but all the tight ends who toasted us last year. Add all of the runningbacks we faced like MJD and Sproles who killed us out of the backfield catching passes. Top it all with the fact we were one of the worst in allowing yards when running backs reached the second level and you know why we don't need to go through another season like last year.

    • TBH, these are the kind of players that get weeded out of professional sports pretty quickly. Also, CMC is not that guy. There is zero indication that he isn't competitive.
    • I like the free agency. It actually helps basically all schools across the board. Pretty much only ancient HC's and/or HC's that haven't been able to adjust have been complaining about the free agency. Your fortunes can be made or broken every offseason. It's not like before where a bad recruiting class or two meant multiyear purgatory.  I will never understand all the bellyaching about the NIL. If you want to talk about what ruined college athletics, it has been naked greed. Conference expansions for TV revenue, ever skyrocketing AD and facilities costs and now the attempts to permanently ruin the postseasons(football and basketball).  All the kids did was get a very well deserved piece of a very, very, VERY broken pie.
    • Nobody is saying they don't count against the cap, because yes, they technically do count against the cap as it's money the team is paying and it needs to be accounted for. But what you're not grasping it seems is that if a player gets $10 million guaranteed in their contract, whether they get literally $0 as a signing bonus or $8 million as a signing bonus, it doesn't change the overall cap hit of the contract, because cap hits are about the guaranteed money, not how much is paid up front. The only thing that how much is paid up front changes, is how the cap hit can be spread out amongst the years. So yes, technically there could end up being a slightly bigger cap hit in year 3 and 4 due to a bigger signing bonus, but if that is the case, it also means there will be a lesser cap hit in years 1 and 2 than there would have been with a smaller bonus.  But over the length of the contract, the size of the signing bonus has literally zero affect on the overall cap hit of the contract, because THAT part of it is 100% about the guaranteed money and nothing else.
