More Pressure From Carolina D

James Anderson went on record to say that he believes Sean McDermott will be calling more blitz plays this upcoming season, especially with the lockout not effecting the upcoming training camp. Andersen went on to say that he believed "just about everyone" would be going after the quarterback. Keuchly not exactly known for his pass rush ability...Just thought I'd throw that in.

No one on our roster is known for going after the QB....

Fox was a front 4 pressure guy at the end and Rivera bluntly said with injuries they couldn't afford to go after the QB last year.

A far as Luke goes.....he asked to go after the QB at BC. Wasn't asked bc he was responsible for being the D essentially. He is like Beason in that he is good enough when comfortable in a scheme.....should be able to do it all

This was the plan last year, until the injuries started to pile up. Rivera had little choice but to either go conservative and try to build a winning ethic into his young team, or roll the dice and allow his undermanned squad try to execute a very risky scheme. He chose the former...primarily because of his LB situation and two rookies at DT. This year, barring another injury avalanche, the Panther D will be much more aggressive.

Which is why we will definitely take a CB in the first two rounds. With Capt'n playing the #2 CB position, he will often be on an island when we blitz....and he will get burned.

Or you could say we will definitely take a D-linemen to create pass rush of some sort so the CB's can be more productive. Either way, I hope its' a DL or CB in the first two rounds.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
