The Fall Of Vontaze Burfict

i always thought he would be a good linebacker in the NFL if he had some vets looking over him. Terrible that this guy went from a top 10 pick to most likely a UDFA in a matter of months. More stuff about hsi fall in the article.

he's not a good football player, people need to stop bringing him up

he was never a top 10 pick to anyone running an NFL team or any legit scout that actually watched game tape on him

maybe a few random message board posters that only saw a few highlights on youtube thought he was a 1st rounder but that's about it

that's completly not true at all. Before the sun devils downward spiral he was a top 10 pick in mock drafts. Right before the combine he was still a 1 round pick in all mock drafts despite being benched in the bowl game.

internet mock drafts = where actualy NFL GMs rank him

how do you know that GM's didnt want him. Mel kiper said in january before the combine that owners around the league were comparing him to ray lewis. He was ranked the 2nd best LB in the draft by mel also before the combine.

I'm trying, but I can't feel sorry for him. He poo his bed and how he has to lie on it.

Exactly. This guy had the opportunity of a lifetime to be a top round pick and just blew it away. He will at the least get paid top dollar (relatively) to be on a practice squad ($5,700+ a week) so fug 'em.

the thing is, one of the big things about the combine is the the media actually get to hear what scouts think of guys. before that the media folks have a lot less access. you are right media people loved him but that was based more on his previous seasons than this year when he went unhinged. the media is always more vulnerable to hype and highlights. that isn't to say they do not know more than the average fan, they usually do, but they are NOT nfl scouts and it is not until the combine where they really find out what scouts & teams think of these guys. that is why there is often a player or two that skyrockets or completely disappears after combines.

vontaze was never as good as some people thought, though he really killed himself during this draft process. he could have really made some team love him and made it around the first round I think (not early tho) but instead he destroyed his stock completely. I do think he could be a decent player with a good, strong coach, and a good mentor on the D side, but man is his unstable.

    • You don’t even need 1b because Tepper is the only one foolish enough to wheel that deal.    Player wise? Jake’s elbow. JR and Pep getting sideways, no Carruth, Cam’s shoulder, Luke’s concussions, it would be a long list of stuff. You can take it down to certain plays in games. Fox chasing 2 point conversions in the SB would be on my list. RMJr slipping at the end of that same game was not helpful.
    • Ultimately this just amounts to heavy revisionist history. I mean you aren't talking to someone that just popped out the womb a week ago. I was here all throughout the predraft process. The overwhelming majority of the fanbase felt like this was a fine situation and the best situation for a rookie QB to go to compared to Houston for example. The hype for Young and our "rockstar" staff was off the charts. No one could dare speak cautious skepticism of his abilities or they would be neg repped into oblivion. Only after he had one of statistical worst rookie seasons of the last 25 years did we get this narrative now that his rookie season actually shouldn't count. Complete malarkey if you ask me.
    • On the field? Since I guess it qualifies as multiple instances it might not count, but have the damn refs throw some flags on illegal hits to Cam's head in SB50. If that doesn't count, 1A. Cotchery caught it 1B. Kasey keeps that kickoff inbounds. Off the field? 1A. Team is sold to anyone but Tepper 1B. We have the patience not to mortgage the franchise on that Bryce trade. Stroudwpuldve been the better pick but he's not worth it either.
