Need Some Help Here.

Hey guys.

I'm a 19 year old college freshman who feels absolutely lost. I have absolutely no motivation whatsoever to expand my academic opportunities, apply for internships, or do my best in class. In fact, I barely even go. I was a straight-A student in high school, but my grades this semester have slipped bigtime. I don't know what to do with my career, and even thinking about it stresses the fug out of me.

I was a journalism major this year, but once I discovered how bad of a field it is right now I've decided to switch to a business admin major. I don't know the specifics yet, but I know this field will be a billion times better.

I just wondered if there are any of you guys here who went through the same thing and have any tips on how to make it through, what you did, where you are, etc.

College is the easiest job you will ever have.

Devote 40 hours per week to college and you will finish in 3 years.

Devote 40 hours per week to a job, and you will be looked down upon by your boss, and will need to update your resume.

If you think that the job market sucks for your line of study, wait until you see the job market for a 20 year old college drop out.

Don't be dumb.

As someone on the other end (about to graduate) & coming from some quite insane experiences in the SEC and ACC in frats, only do the frat thing if you really want to

But come on if you have no motivation you aren't pushing yourself strong enough. College is opportunity to develop into a driven and strong individual. Don't let the voids get to you.

Going though 6 years in architecture after transferring from Cam's school, I've learned to not overthink this sh*t especially at that early of an age. HAVE FUN BRO

Everyone in this thread is right

*my false wisdom shall now be gone from this thread haha

suck it up. go to some parties. participate in intermurals. pledge a fraternity. get involved in campus life. don't just sit in your dorm and play video games.

Dude you have no idea how much fun you can make college.

I really don't think that's his problem... He definitely said he needs help to get motivated in academics. Getting shitfaced all the time will do the opposite of that.

I'm at Tennessee. I'm in a fraternity and have plenty of fun but I'm talking about career choices here, not college life.

It's free for me because of my high school grades. So that may be part of it.

I feel you bro. I was a boss in high school, 4.8 GPA, got two years of free college at UNCW because of it. But now, every time I have something to do, whether a small assignment, a big presentation, a paper, a test, etc, I'll leave it off until like 1:00 AM the night before.

I've found in the past that changing your work environment helps a ton. Go to the library, don't bring headphones (or even your computer if you don't need it), find a place to sit, and get that sh*t done. Trust me, a fresh environment helps a lot. You feel forced to get it done.

Other than that, I can't really help you. I put the pro in procrastination, so maybe I'm not the best help.

Freshman year is the easiest time you will have too.

You take generic courses, maybe 1 or 2 toward your major, but even then, they are pretty generic.

It just get's harder from here on out. By about the 2nd semerster of your Sophomore year is when you start working on your courses aimed at your major. And they get harder each semester. (There's a reason that the Jr & Sr courses have pre-reqs.)

I skated by school until I graduated from high school. But when I started college, I know that the rest of my life depended on what I did. Good grades get you hired, but what you do from then on, is what makes your career.

Like TheFuzz said. If you think the job market if tough now. Just try geting hired as a college drop out.

For every good job out there, there are 10 college grads going for it, not to mention the unemployed that have a track record.

Dont let these guys scare you. Youre a freshman, take classes that interest you or youre curious about. Figure out what you are interested in and learn about those things. Dont worry about choosing a major yet, it doesnt matter. Explore YOUR interests both inside of class and out... F*ck what everyone else thinks you should be doing. many people try to justify their own poor decisions by convincing others that they were necessary and by pushing others to make the same decisions.

Slow down, listen to yourself, dont worry so much, surround yourself with good people.
