Football Gameplan's 2012 Draft Grades Video - Panthers

I like most of what you said, my only disagreement is what you said about Beason. Kuechly may or may not start in the middle with Beason going out to WLB, but if that does happen it won't be because Beason is more effective there or it's his natural spot (he's not and it's not), it'll be because they think the drop-off of moving Beason from MLB to WLB will be less than if they moved Kuechly from MLB to WLB.

Thanks JB! I honestly think Kuechly's effectiveness is limited to MLB & SLB... I like Beason's athleticism and speed which is why I like him as a WLB

I'd have to agree with JBlaze to a T.

Thanks for the video.

Preciate That JOAT!

Seems like you know what you're talking about. That's generally uncommon among non-Panther die hards.

LOL! Thanks Smitty!! I try to take an unbiased approach to my analysis and try to see big picture

i like most everything except the kuechly/beason thoughts. disagree there. beason will start out at MLB unless he's not healthy...but if he's on the field he's going to be wearing the headset and this will be his defense. kuechly may show up in various packages in the middle but most of the time he's going to be on the outside. beason is best suited for the middle.that is his natural position. he's not more effective on the outside. "stats" may show otherwise but the defense as a whole does better when he is in the middle running the show.

again, unless beason isn't healthy enough, kuechly WON'T be starting out in the middle. it's beason's spot to lose and as good and as much potential as kuechly has, he won't be enough to take that spot. beason has the respect of everyone in the D and he is seen as THE leader. Beason would have to royally screw things up to lose that spot. kuechly was brought in because of the talent, IQ, and versatility he brings to the table and that versatility is going to result in him lining up on the outside.

Thanks Big Rayzor!

If Kuechly has to play on the outside, I'd rather see him cover TEs.

Beason was a OLB in college and started his days in Carolina outside, it is a more natural position for him in the NFL because Beason doesn't have MLB size at only 6-0 and 240 pounds. I could easily see the team moving Beason outside with Kuechly in the middle.

Thanks for posting the video.

Overall great summary, I was a bit surprised you didn't mention the trade for a 2013 3rd and 2012 6th round picks in order to move up and get Alexander, which is my only issue with the pick.

As for safety needs, I think the FO is hoping that Haruki Nakamura from the Ravens and Reggie Smith from the 49ers will challenge Martin in training camp, and they hope Godfrey plays up to his contract, so I think they felt safety was addressed in free agency and weren't looking to draft one unless there was a lot of value BPA wise.

Safety could easily become a big need in next years draft if things don't pan out this year though.

The only good thing about that if it happens, is that next years draft class should be really good and deep at safety. I also agree that either Smith or Nakamura will take the starting spot from Martin in Camp.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
