Greg Hardy primed for a breakout year.

Been saying this all offseason last year accident and lockout hurt his development. With a full offseason he's ready to have a breakout year.

Greg Hardy, DE, Panthers: Carolina coach Ron Rivera is extremely high on this talented third-year player.

"Hardy has been tremendous," Rivera said. "Talk about growth in a young man. He's really matured in terms of being here every day on a voluntary basis, for the most part. I really am excited about him."

Hardy had four sacks last season and also moved from end to tackle at times. He was able to play inside at times because he weighed close to 290. Rivera said Hardy is closer to "278, 279 now," which would probably keep Hardy at end, opposite hard-working end Charles Johnson. There were high expectations of Hardy last season, but he was slowed by a motorcycle accident just before training camp.

The idea that Hardy will develop into a solid player kept the Panthers from selecting a defensive end in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Carolina did select Oklahoma defensive end Frank Alexander in the fourth round.

I agree with this one as far as the defense goes.

He looked a lot thicker in the one picture I saw of him from OTA's.

he'll look much better as a rusher when we get pressure (or at least no negative movement) from the interior position on the line.

i hope he's working on becoming more disciplined against the run. it's way too easy for lineman to take him out of plays on off-tackle runs, happened countless times last year. much of it is mental i'm sure, and that's why having guys like beason and davis back will be priceless.

I've always liked Hardy and agree he is poised for a breakout year. People were down on him last year, but it was his first full year as a starter, and he was coming off that accident and no full off season. He possess all the skills to be a real good player in this league.

Dante was not a bad player...he had potential

I never said he didn't. But he didn't do much to merit anything either way. It's just like the people that are very high on Barnidge. He has potential too, but he hasn't DONE anything. I will admit out of the two, I kinda wish we'd kept Rosario instead of Barnidge. Rosario was more athletic.

    • The new (released today) FOX ONE app will allow you access to watch your Local FOX Station - similar to how the Paramount Plus app allows you access to watch your local CBS station It'll cost you $20/month for the privilege, but if you're having trouble accessing the over-the-air antenna for FOX, this could be an option to consider the new ESPN app will give you access to ESPN content, but not to the local ABC affiliate. A reminder: if you currently get ESPN via some TV provider (cable, satellite, youtube, etc) then you should be able to use the new ESPN app via your provider login, no additional payment required
    • Not even close!!! BURNS was a one trick pony who had a big game or two a year in the sack collum and was invinsible the rest of the time....   Heck hes gonna be the Giants fourth best rusher this year.
    • XL went to one of the worst teams in the NFL.  One that features a weak passing O and bad overall QB play on the season.   XL is getting way too much hate IMO.   He had an okay rookie season all things considered.   Very much on par w/ prospects that projected around the same area with him.   Panthers made a 2nd rounder a first round technicality for that contract.  XL also getting this weird kicker type blame for games.  XL somehow single handedly lost us games on one play.....and then we ignore the rest of the team that went about losing the game for 4 quarters.   Should he of caught the Philly ball? 100%.  The O and D still played like garbage that entire game.  Even after the drop, Panthers had two shots starting w/ a 3rd and 4 to convert.  They kept playing bad instead.  And even if we XL made the play....Philly would have had a minute and half to get into FG range to win it.  Who is banking on the Panther D getting that stop?  also, I am deemed Mr. Negative, yet here I am defending a no good dirty Gamecock lol
