Can we sign Jeremy Shockey just to have him? I fell in love with his awesomeness and in one year, he became a top 10/15 Favorite Panther for me. He is a true American badass and just Awesome.

Well, I respect Shockey and all that, and he may be a good asset to have, but one year does not a favorite Panther make (especially one coming from the Saints*).

I would really like to have him back. I think he is a great teammate. I don't think he has always been that way (Giants) but he appears to have learned over the years. He does bring the chip, which is fun to watch.

on topic, sure, it would be great if he was re-signed. there's probably an offer on the table right now that's probably just a little too less money than he thinks is ideal and/or is something that he just feels no urgency to sign because he's pretty much otherwise occupied with living and being a newly wed. i think he probably just liked the freedom he had last offseason and figures he's in a good enough place in life that he can afford to take more time away from the game. if he wants back in he could probably do it but he'd also probably be just fine not playing again.

really there is no urgency to sign for him if the above is true. i'm sure he'll know the offense and his role in it well enough if he even just shows up at training camp or just before the season starts. he's been around long enough and in enough systems to be able to pick up things quickly.

i think we're better if he comes back but we'll also be fine if he doesn't.

I think we're a better team with him than without him and I hope we can fit him in.

It all depends on what happens in camp with Barnidge, with the #3 WR position, and with injuries.

That said, I wouldn't pay him more than $2 to $2.5 million a year.

shockey was an asshole... but he was OUR asshole, dammit. i loved me some shock while he was here.

i'm guessing the team wants to see what it has in barnidge in camp. if he comes out making play after play we'll probably let him take TE2... like our WR situation, he has a lot more years available to produce than shockey does.

if barnidge looks average than i wouldn't be one bit surprised to see shockey back sometime in july or august. hopefully he's staying in shape.
