First Month of the Regular Season Crucial for the Panthers

Seriously, take a look at the opponents we face in only the first month of the season:

Tampa Bay

New Orleans

Giants Prime Time

Atlanta

In the first four weeks the Panthers have half of their Divisional games for the season and one of their two (And, personally, the more important) prime time games. How the Panthers come out in the win-loss department will weigh very heavily not only on people's perception of them, but on their Playoff chances as well. If they can even break even in the first four weeks, I will call it a success. However if they can come out 3-1 or (God forbid) 4-0, I believe the Panthers will already be playoff bound. If they are 1-3 or winless after the first four weeks, I would say we would likely be in for another rough season. However I don't see them going any worse than 2-2 in the first four weeks, if not 3-1.

Giants - W...they suck in regular season and it seems like we always play there, this time its in our house + primetime

Falcons- W... Cam wants to light it up for his hometown

I don't see the first month as any more critical than the rest. But just to entertain you, I do believe that we have a real opportunity to be 4-0, and will likely be no worse than 3-1. I believe that even with Cam, people don't really recognize that we are poised to beat bitches this year. Beat bitches! Tampay Bay, New Orleans and especially the Saints* are bitches.

it's nice to have a coach who doesn't spew "let's just win three out of four" rhetoric. this team is hungry and will fight to win every one of those games - they won't be satisfied with anything less than 4-0. should be fun to watch.

It wasn't that many years ago that winning early wasn't as important as winning in December. Very rarely did teams have many early divisional games.

The schedule makers have really outdone themselves. They got it where the first month is much more important than it use to be.

So yes, it'll be important that the team starts strong. The coaches know this, and will be preparing our team for it. It's going to be important for our defense to start well.

    • Scourton's interviews are telling to me that it's only a matter of time before he could really put it together.  His limitation tool-wise that I see is in his bend, but at the leaner size, it looks like it wasn't a problem at Purdue.   He has a good moveset and reads leverages very well (vet level well).  Plays both the speed/quickness (great change of direction) and has a power game with good hand usage.  Moves from what I've seen in my digs: I'm seeing cross-chop, fake crossers into bull, bull rush, spin (his preferred move of choice), hand shuck.  He's not unrefined by any means.   If he can do 2 things---I'm feeling confident from seeing his interviews that we have a real dude on our hands: 1) Diversifying his moveset/how it's deployed - Over-reliant on some, but again, he has a growing palette.  And is already great with his hands so things are in-place to coach up. 2) Developing a counter moveset and starting to play the chess game with an OT - He's very good at reading leverage, knowing when to change things up during a play.  But NFL coaching should start to teach him how to really create a plan based on an opponent.  What to throw at a guy first, how to confuse with fakes/counters, etc.  How to play against these tackles as a game progresses.   Overall, he has some things that give me serious optimism: Run Defense, speed moves, power moves, he's super young and has the size/length.  When you really spell it all out, I think we should get excited.  Temper expectations from a stat sheet standpoint, but he should be able to go in and make an impact.
