Tolbert's Role in the Offense

We didn't get a great look at what Mike can bring to this offense up to this point. I'm gonna be that guy and say I'm not impressed at the moment. I know it's preason blah blah blah so im assuming we won't see anything totally fuging boner until week one.

Am I in the minority here?

hes a guy that can pick up key first downs for you... and is highly entertaining to watch because he has no qualms with punishing defenders. i still like the pickup

He didn't really play last night, he suffered a bruised knee early. But overall, I've been impressed with what I've seen. He runs well and he lays the wood on lead blocks.

You apparently didn't watch the game against the Dolphins. He had some very nice runs and at least one awesome block that stood out on Stewart's TD run.

I seem to recall him knocking a guy out of his jock last night, or am I wrong? I could swear I remember an attempted tackle that left a Jets defender seeing stars.

He is brought in to be a fullback. The average fan hardly notices the position, but he will be an exceptional fullback for this team as he has the skill sets of a halfback in addition to his wrecking ball mentality.

Of course, while the Jets' quarterback conundrum has been a fixture on sports networks, seems no one talks all that much at Cam Newton, even though he may be the most electrifying player in the game and is coming off the greatest season by a rookie quarterback in NFL history. This was no vintage performance from Newton, though, as several Panthers told me before the game, Carolina is holding pretty much everything back for the regular season (including some innovative formations featuring hybrid running back/fullback/H-back/slot guy Mike Tolbert).

I think that Tolbert's role is going to be whatever we need of him, when we need it. He brings different aspects to the offense.

still going to be those who don't see the sense in holding cards close to their chest and who think because other teams aren't then the panthers shouldn't.

i'm going to go not so far out on a limb and say that the defense is probably doing the same thing. we haven't been/won't be seeing much of what mcD and rivera have in store for the D. i expect that esp. after beason gets back in there we'll be seeing a much more aggressive and effective defense with a whole lot more stunts, blitzes, sacks, and turnovers than we think.

the opening home game vs. new orleans should be the moment that the gates are opened up on the playbook on both sides. that game could be huge as far as setting the tone for the year on both sides of the ball.
