Opening Line Carolina (-2.5)

Vegas thinks the Panthers will win by 2.5 points, so they are basically handicapping the Bucs 2.5 points before the ball is every kicked off. So essentially the game starts out 2.5 to 0 (Bucs winnings). If win the actualy game by 3 points or more, then if you bet on the Panthers then you win some money.

If you bet on the Panthers, and the Panthers win by 2 points, then you lose the bet.. because the Bucs start the game with 2.5 points. You'd lose by half a point.

Help me out.

I don't bet and this stuff is Greek to me.

I thought that meant the Panthers are actually favored to win the game, but in order to balance out the bets they try to get people to bet for TB.

Yes, no, maybe?

Bucs are ATM 2.5 points more than us. Ex: if it goes in a tied game 14-14, Bucs win (16.5-14).

So say I pick the Bucs for 100.00 and they win by 1, then what?

More or less if the Bucs win at all you win $100. Usually both bets are at -110, meaning you have to bet $110 to win $100 (this is how Vegas ensures they come out ahead).

But let's say it's a 1 to 1 bet (+100) for the sake of simplicity.

Carolina's at -2.5. That means if you place a bet on Carolina, as soon as the game starts the score is technically:

Carolina: -2.5

Tampa: 0

If you bet Tampa at +2.5, the game starts with the score of:

Carolina: 0

Tampa: 2.5

The + and - is what Vegas adds to or subtracts from the score to make it more even.

Most home team get 3 points so if we're 2.5 point favorites. It's really a 5.5 favorite. So Vegas really likes us to beat them bad. But they want Bucs fans to bet straight up for the win and lose.

I couldn't disagree more, with a -2,5 line Vegas seems to be begging people to bet the Panthers if you ask me. They certainly aren't trying to influence fan bases because they don't represent a significant % of any betting total.

Really seems like a trap game and if it is, then shame on me because I am taking the Panthers to cover.

I think Vegas knows most panther fans love being 2.5 point favorite and bet the over so they really won't make any money from us unless they raise it to a TD favorite. They are trying to get money from overconfident Bucs fans who think their going to win and will take the points as a safe guard. Either way the game is not going to be a big money maker for vegas.

LOL fan bets make up an insignificant amount to vegas bets. Majority of fan money in bets goes to bookies anyways. Vegas sets their lines to account for bettors, a better that only makes bets they are sure to win. Actually there are 1 or 2 bettors that can actually shift the line before kickoff they are always so right.

    • It’s going to get wild after this Sunday.  I would assume Dave has a really smart plan.   Sorta like the AZ plan last year.    After a big turnover heavy  bad game Bryce normally reels it in.  Bryce will have one of his standard 60% for 200 days and the Bryce defenders will use that as a “ I told you he is good” games.
    • Bryce is a really smart kid and I'm sure he knows all the answers to the test but he hasn't been able to overcome his lack of physical tools and other DC's know this and play him accordingly. I think Bryce has good processing but when the correct read is the WR 30 to 40 yards down field and you have a defensive lineman coming at you what can he really do? He just doesn't have the arm to effectively and consistently hurt the defense and I think that's what's gonna do him in.  Pime example look at the INT versus Dallas last year when Thelien was wide open down the seam and Bryce threw it from a clean pocket and the ball was way short. Dc's watched that and knew that Bryce can't throw the ball deep.
    • I'd give Bryce until the trade deadline to prove he's the answer and if he's not I'm dumping him for whatever pick we can get and I'm riding with Dalton the rest of the way.  2 and a half years is enough time to determine if he can be the QB going forward so for Bryce he needs to come out over the next couple of weeks and show that. The other players in the locker room don't wanna waste another year of their careers waiting to see if you'll ever figure it out.  If you took a poll of the players in the locker room I'm sure they'd rather lose with a respected veteran Dalton who at least gives them some creditability versus losing with Bryce who the entire media will say was let down by his supporting cast when in reality it's Bryce's physical limitations that are holding this team back.
