If we lose next week to the Seahawks, fire Rivera after the game.

When can we start talking about the draft?

You should always be focused on the draft. If Hurney was more focused on the draft, he might learn how to draft well deep instead of bringing in scrub after scrub that can't return a punt.

fug that. I wanted Harbaugh, but that ship has sailed. Firing Don Ron before his second season completes would be stupid in the least. If anyone needs to go, it's the guy who is responsible for the last 10 years of overpaying, draft trading that makes even Big Al in his grave go "WTF?", and continues to push for his failed draftees to stay on board because they "sell seats."

I say let Rivera stick around to see his system completely implemented, with guys who fit the style he's trying to establish, before we make a final judgment. I think he should show more input into the defensive playcalling, but I'm not even ready to fire McD before Hurlney.

Coaches, like players, need a little time to develop as well. I agree he blew the clock management somewhat at the end of the first half (although I understand his thinking-- don't give the ball back to Ryan before the half).

Anywho, there's more to coaching than just play calling and clock management, and I think Rivera does pretty well on handling players. The jury is still out on developing talent (which is more of your assistants job anyway).

I'm not saying he's the next Lombardi, but it's too early to start firing head coaches.

McDermott wasn't the reason we lost, the defensive gameplan was actually pretty good. It was simply breakdowns by players who didn't make plays and weren't where they needed to be. This defense is a high accountability defense which requires players to be where they need to be on each play. When they aren't we give up big plays. You either go with an aggressive defense which requires players to tackle solidly and be where they need to be or you go with a bend don't break defense where everyone plays loosely and you run to the ball. Both defenses have their issues. Frankly I would rather live and die with an aggressive defense then die by hoping the other defense makes a mistake and watching then matching up and down the field. If we had a good free safety against Atlanta we would be celebrating a win. Anyone think it is McDermott's fault that both Nakamura and Martin suck and we haven't had a decent safety in years.

The real issue lies with JR. There is a reason his sons stepped down. We have an owner that set us back ten years with a roster cutting "youth movement" which was really geared for saving his pockets during the locked out. He wanted to keep the players locked out as well as the officials. There is a reason Marty Hurney hasn't been fired and why Ron got the job because both are just JR yes men. This team will never reach his potential until there is a change in ownership

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
