Nortman shank

I think Nortman's shank at the end is being overshadowed by the loss in general. Nortman punted the ball 6 yards.. which in turn gave the Bears excellent field position, where they were able to score a quick TD. That was the 2nd poor punt of the day for Nortman.

I looked up to see where Nortman ranked throughout the league. To my surprise, Nortman was ranked 30th in the league (before this game). I am sure he is ranked dead last after his 22 return avg agaist the bears.

Nortman being from Wisconsin, I thought he would be accustomed to kicking with high winds. I am not giving Nortman a pass just because it was soldier field. Looks like our punting issues have not been solved.

It was a planned directional punt call, you can tell by the way he tried to actually punt and the way his body was turned to the right. The wind caught the direction, carried it out of bounds. Not out of the norm. It was the playcall that put him in the situation.

Which, speaking of the play calling for the special teams... It was absolutely terrible. Short kicks, allowing your opponent to start at the 40? Really? Why not just kick it to Hester? Even if you don't get a touchback, he has to start in the endzone with the special teams baring down on him.

Not only did the short kicks give the Bears killer field position the entire game, but it put our offense in a hole every fuging drive. The scary part is they didn't even bother to make an adjustment after the Bears started putting running backs and receivers in to field kicks. What the fug is going on here?

    • When you analyze what Tulsky has done the only positive was getting Ehlers, he blew the Gentzel signing, whiffed on Rantanan, signed Miller who is a terrible fit, never addressed the goalie problem, signing a declining Freddie instead, and wasted a ton of cap space this year with inaction. My verdict is he might be great at analytics but sucks as a general manager.
    • If you think the refs we have are bad, you probably don't remember just how bad it got the last time they used replacement refs... including an incident of a Packers fan ref massively influencing a game. The NFL, when you consider all the other things tied to it like TV rights, betting, stadiums (construction, ticket prices, heck even parking and concessions), plus merchandizing, is probably a trillion dollar industry. Give the refs what they want, pay them and let's get back to having games.
    • Probably.  You never know.  It always amazes me to think how many times they miss on first rounders (about 50%) and the number of misses increases every round.  Then there are UDFAs that make the team every year.  I guess we are always looking for the next gem--but most never make it.  Funny, I was at dinner last night and there was this big guy with a WCU shirt on.  I recognized him--that OT from Western that we gave a tryout last year or the year before--Smith.  He explained his experience--just wanted to see how he could hold up against the big boys.  He played a preseason game and was terrible, fwiw.
