Godfrey to play free safety?

We are down to our 5th safety. Why is Godfrey playing FS instead of SS? Because he understands the schemes and coverages and the FS is the guy who controls the secondary playing calling. Kuechly controls the front 7 and calls the line and linebacker coverage but the FS is the one who makes sure the defensive backs are lined up correctly and makes up for someone being out of position.

Reading through this thread i have come to the conclusion that exactly zero of you have any clue what the difference between a FS and SS is. Its more complicated than, one roams and one hits. Godfrey belongs at FS and Campbell is a more natural SS. We could actually run a bit of cover 1, cover 3, and cover 5 with campbell in there.

Worth a look

My exact thoughts. For a long while I had defended Godfrey from the typical Huddle Hate, but after last season i just couldn't keep defending the missed tackles and busted assignments. However, if he looks comfortable (or lucky like his Pro Bowl season) and Campbell turns out to be solid that would be great. I remember reading somewhere that another head coach had said that we I got an absolute steal when we drafted Campbell

Phillip Rivers + Godfrey at FS = a couple deep passing TDs.

CBs will think he has help and Godfrey will come along 2-3 steps late.

That's what I'm scared of with DX coming on so strong as of late. Really hoping Hardy and CJ step it up and Dwan is playing.

      Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game

      I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
