since bill belichick was fined 50k for running down an official and grabbing him in a threatning manner i suspect cam newton to get fined 500k his go play60 commercial to be pulled and under armor to drop him.

This guy thinks he could be suspended. I don't see it

http://charlotte.cbslocal.com/2012/12/25/cam-newtons-ref-bump-could-be-first-test-of-roger-goodells-post-bounty-gate-power/

It has been said that Roger Goodell has lost some of his power after the reversal of the so-called Bounty Gate penalties and Newton’s actions could prove the first real test of the commissioner’s power to levy fines and/or suspensions. Individually the kick and bump would simply draw fines, but because they were done by the same person in the same game Goodell may want to reprise his law and order reputation and tell the young quarterback to sit out the first game of his professional career.

If he's fined even though the Ref corrected himself later by saying that Newton didn't bump him, that would be a travesty.

the ref said the bump wasn't malicious, not that he didn't bump into him.

bottom line, you are not to touch intentionally touch the referees...or do too much trash talking.

either way, he'll be fined because he broke the rules. the nfl has never let anything slide when it comes to an infraction against a referee.

He also said he misspoke and did not mean to call the penalty for Bumping an Official but for the words Cam said to him.

The guy is a moron, that much has been established. However if you can't touch an official, then this same guy once gave Vince Young a high-five and in that same game had Steve Smith draped around his shoulders.

You either can or you can't, now there are stories saying Cam did and didn't. Just a bunch of hogwash to me.

The ref even said it was not malicious, and that the penalty was for screaming at him. If they're going to fine him, it should be "for disrespect" or it should be very minor, because it was clearly an accident that he bumped into him.

Yep I agree maybe a token fine to let the players know it will not be tolerated. I hope Cam will learn from this.

    • I am no football savant as has been demonstrated here over and over, but I saw it.  I went for years doing the mock draft thing and researching the players that we might get around our pick, time consuming stuff. And we would get to the draft and trade the pick. All that time, wasted.  So I quit doing that. Also realized I was not a scout and would never be a scout and went to looking the videos and reports After  we picked a guy.  Maybe I would look at the 1st round, but quit that too and just looked after we picked.    When they did that trade I saw Bryce and his size and just ruled him out. Then it got to yeah they are probably going to take him, I relented and looked at some video and got to his pro day. It took me all of a few minutes to see the issues. The footwork. The arm. And the tape of games? The backyard style. I knew, what can I say?  (Also, went down the physical checklist, not a single plus attribute on the NFL level. Arm, speed, size, etc, nothing to offset the negatives. nothing)  I think it was easy for me because I had not watched a single game he played in college, and wasn’t drawn in by the hype. Had no preconceived notions and just looked at it pretty clinically.  I got in here and everyone was going “but look at what he did in college! It is the SEC, if he can do it in the SEC he can do it in the NFL!” Couldn’t reason with hardly anyone.  I don’t think I could tell you which guy would succeed between two prototypical guys with great arms and athleticism, and have no special insight into any of that. My one calling in football scouting was to see the real about what we were about to do. And you still don’t know for sure until they get in a real game in the NFL.
    • Miss Bryce sorely is possibly the most hilarious statement I have read on the Huddle in quite some time.
    • He did only throw 1 pass 20+ in that game. I think he is still struggling to adjust to the NFL. At Alabama he was able to extend plays and play backyard football. That's not only not the style of offense we have been running but his physical skills don't lend themselves to that style of play at this level.  So, the amount of issues he actually has to clean up are WAAAAAY more than I anticipated as a guy that had Bryce #1 on my board in that draft class.  I am just not seeing a reasonable path for him to clean it all up and develop in a reasonable timeframe
