Voth: Rivera is Staying

I think it is the right decision. The players rallied for him and his technical coaching improved. AND he responded when Richardson put him on notice. This team is a potential 12 win team next year.

As for the GM this will not dissuade a GM from coming here one bit. Any potential GM candidate will be salivating over this role whether he has to keep Rivera for a year or not. This is the best GM job available right now.

And the Jets have done the same thing with Sexy Rexy

this team has been a potential 12 win team for years, esp. the last couple.

i can appreciate the team rallying for their coach, but why can't rivera get them to do that earlier in the season? why can't he get his OC to adjust his scheme earlier? why does it take so long for positive things to happen?

It's not 100%, but there's rumors that they had to give Gamble power and they have decided to do that. So he'll have full control over if Rex stays or not based on that rumor.

Possible. Truth be told though, what Panther fans see Jerry Richardson being, I think Woody Johnson actually is.

Sounds awfully similar to the end of the 2011 season.

Lol, really? In the last decade please, the game has definitely changed since then. And even if it hadn't those are Hall of Fame HCs. I can name you 10x maybe as much HCs in the same time period who had epic fails.

Well nowadays coaches get fired after 3 sub par seasons. No patience anymore

Fair questions. John Fox seemed to have the same issue here from time to time particularly '02, '04 '09

Another slow start and you can Rivera mid-season.

Keep in mind it was reported that Rivera had lost the lockeroom after 6 games this year. If that was true he did something to fix it and the players love him now. If we keep that philosophy and momentum starting with game 1 we will be in great shape.

Also players rallying for their coaches is not always a great thing. Lovie Smith was loved by his players, some even saying they will retire now (Hester). It just goes to show, who wouldn't love a HC that doesn't hold anyone accountable and allows everyone to get comfortable in their ways.
