Do you think the new GM signing will get this franchise beyond 2nd place?

It could be argued that this franchise is saturated in a losing culture. It always feels like we're 2 steps behind most of the other teams in the NFL, it takes years of bad decisions before somebody gets fired, many of the fans just accept losing like they do when there aren't 3 like prize amounts on their $2 scratch off, the media coverage is poor, etc. Can't help but to think if it is an extension of Carolina life in general. I mean face it besides the Wright brothers inventing flight and barbeque what exactly is that area noted for when it comes to innovation and being a leader of the country... it's like a who's who of also-rans were founded there. Pepsi-Cola (formulated after Coke, and pretty much lost the cola war), Krispy Kreme donuts (yea I don't see those every 3 blocks like I see Dunkin Donuts). Coincidentally to the Pepsi thing, the Panthers have also secured second place in the NFC South race this season, behind the Atlanta Falcons (Coca Cola was formulated in Georgia).

Since 2005, the Panthers have secured 2nd place in the South 4 times, which is half of the 8 seasons that have been played since then. To be frank, the only thing this team has been consistently good at is mediocrity. So the question is, does the braintrust of this organization have the stones to start raising the standard? Will they bring in the most qualified GM, and can he shift us into another gear? Or will this franchise continue to flounder in the most spectacular of fashions? Just give me your honest opinion. Are we on the verge of overflowing into consistent success and just need the right guy to pilot the craft or are the Panthers just fuged no matter who they hire?

(eds. note. Please disregard if we hire Beane, because that's guaranteed to have us fuged as a franchise for the next 5 years)

also, post TL/DR in response to this if you like to swallow your sister's ejaculate

We finished 1st in 2008 (which, relatively speaking, isn't THAT long ago), 2nd in 2009, 2nd this season. Of course we want to be better but lets not act like we're full of suck. We had a horrible year in 2010 and everyone knew '11 was growing pains. But I don't know how anyone can jump to a conclusion that we're suddenly not going to be able to make it past 2nd.

Because they are instant gratification, whiny ass bitches. 4 years of suck is nothing compared to what the browns go thru every single year. And then to have to watch YOUR real team that was taken from you be better then you every single year. Now that has to suck. The woe is me, we are a terrible franchise, we should just murder ourselves act is getting old. Not to mention quite annoying.

My experience of the team is limited but following this season i've been telling anybody who'll listen to me over here that I think Carolina have the team to be the best in our division. This is purely based on my experience mainly this year but I feel we're a better team than the Falcons who's final position flattered them in my opinion. We were a fumble away from beating them both games this year and i'd be confident going up against them tomorrow. Same goes for New Orleans who whilst having a bit of a strange year I think we're definitely a match for.

If we add wisely and strengthen well then there's no reason we can't win the division and if we don't go into next season believing that then it simply won't happen!

Nope.

The new GM doesn't matter when he's not being given full autonomy, which our new GM won't be given right off the bat. It basically feels like JR is cool with wasting another year because Rivera is a lame-duck coach. On top of that, the guy that comes in has to deal with an absolutely horrid cap situation. So, most fans are thinking everything is going to magically come together next season, but we're gonna lose quite a few big contributors.

    • Okay so he and we are acknowledging that Bryce is still making mistakes and not recognizing basic coverages in his third season. So what does he do to prepare? Remember before the draft the entire hype around him revolved around not only his ability to improvise when the play breaks down on the field but his dedication to preparation off the field in the film room. So if all of this is happening and his footwork is still anywhere between mediocre and horrific in any given play what is he doing in the offseason and in between games? This and his elite processing was supposed to be his key selling point. Then leadership was the sprinkle on top and let's be honest that's lacking at best too. So what is it that Bryce Young excels at in any phase of the game right now?....
    • Ironically enough what I think will ultimately do Bryce in/will be why he won’t make it in the league won’t be his size concerns, but his mental makeup.   He is a historical outlier in size and due to that has smaller and stricter windows, but he *has* shown he can play, but only when it doesn’t matter. The best football we’ve seen from Bryce was that preseason Buffalo drive and then down the stretch last year after we were already eliminated   Remember the look on JJs face last night after that TD pass to Jones towards the end of the game? Dude looked like a straight killer. That’s the face of a dude that’s locked the fug in, completely ignoring any and all noise. Reminded me of prime Cams infamous nod prior to orchestrating a game winning drive right after seeing the Saints take the lead.  Probably hyperbolic but that shot convinced me JJ will be a dude for the Vikings. Yes they have a great staff but that kind of mentality isn’t something that’s taught.    to succeed as a young QB in this league you need some level of that coldness/killer mentality in you to push through the adversity that will inevitably come when you have a bad game, throw a pick 6, or your line gets blown up.    i don’t see any of that in Bryce. I want to be wrong, and hope someone can quote this post with a “wow that aged like milk!” someday, but I don’t think it’s happening.     if Bryce had that mentality in him, I honestly think he could play and work through it, but I just don’t think he does
