Rivera on his job

Not a real fan of Shila, but to call a coach who has been both an NFL offensive coordinator and major college HC as "unknown" is a joke

Shula is an unknown as he could have improved quite a bit since he was fired from being the OC in tampa and the HC at Alabama

lol. hell let's hire Denny Green, since it's unknown if he's improved after the 12 times he's been fired before.

Yes, it seems like we've been screwed once again. Hard to believe that this wasn't foreseen. Who wants a more-than-likely temporary OC position other than someone who is inexperienced or who had their chance before and blew it and wants another one.

No top notch guys are gonna want to come here.

an offensive coordinator who wants to interview as next HC...

Shula has never run anything like Chud's offense before and there's nothing to indicate he'd be able to. He's not a coryell guy.

how is he not a coryell guy, yet he's the one teaching Cam to run a coryell offense?

A lot of time has passed since he stunk it up as an OC/HC

I would hope he's better now but it's an unknown.

I'm sure the Patriots and Seahawks are glad they tried a retread.

I think the team knew this was happening. That's why the WR coach and RB coach were let go, so a new OC could bring in his guys.

Ive been driving the Whisenhunt bandwagon for a good two months now. I definitely do not want Shula being promoted. Are the same people hyperventilating about Shula the same people who hyperventilated about Beane?

I think Jerry realizes he's in "win now" mode. He won't go with Shula unless its pure desperation.

Well, hopefully Gettleman brings in some top players to make up for the absence of coaching that we will yet again suffer next season.

Oh yeah, and it is up to Gettleman to hire the OC unless JR meddles, right? So, maybe we do get a guy who knows how to call plays and doesn't get caught up in being cute, or maybe Shula will best know how to call plays for the offense because he has worked most closely with Cam for two years.

Still plenty to be hopeful for. If the players are good enough and the OC is decent-good, we will win next year. Now, the bad part about that is Rivera will get credit for it.

This^ I mean come on guys you act like no one could have even considered this happening. I'm sure JR, Rivera, and Gettlmen( sorry sp his name not familiar with it yet) knew this was likely to happen.

    • Well even if we took diverging paths getting there...our overall assessment of Shough is the same (bolded) lol so I guess that's what matters.  What you call "playing at a level that looks like a veteran starter" is the same thing I'm referencing when I talk about his poise.  Although I still wonder how truly "bad" of a team the Saints are.  Their defense is middle-of-the-road, and their offense does have some good pieces (Olave, Juwan Johnson) outside of running back which is the position most everyone agrees is relatively plug-and-play.  I'm not going to pretend to know anything about the majority of NFL team's o-lines lol but I'm assuming Saints are not great there, although Shough's pressure % seems to have been quite low (and steadily improving) over the last four weeks (20 -> 16.7 -> 15.0 -> 13.0) so maybe they've been playing better as of late, or perhaps Shough himself deserves credit for that.   Some of the language I'm hearing about Shough, including talking about how he's way above league average in several categories, makes it sound like Shough is having a rookie season on par with like a CJ Stroud who established himself as basically a Top 5-10 QB his rookie season.  Maybe that's on me though, I don't mean to attribute anything to you that I'm sure you don't agree with.
    • Since your being selective (and somewhat deceptive) with your comparisons, I'll throw this up so we can compare apples to apples. Both Young and Shough have played against the Rams. Young went: 15/20 (75%) for 191 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs with a 147.1 QB rating Shough went: 15/24 (62.5%) for 176 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT with a 81.2 QB rating   Both Young and Shough have played against the Buccs. Young went: 21/32 (65%) for 206 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs with a 102.5 QB rating Shough went: 13/20 (65%) for 176 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT with a 65.4 QB rating   Both Young and Shough have played against the Falcons. Young went: 31/45 (75%) for 448 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs with a 123.2 rating Shough went: 30/43 (69.7%) for 243 yards, 0TD, 1 INT with a 74 QB rating   Seriously, in what world is Shough a better QB.
    • Freddie? For this game? Seriously? I don’t get it. Hope we get the best version of Freddie tonight.
