Lying Liars and the People They Lie To

So in the light of the Manti Te'o debacle, I'm wondering how many people on here have a story of someone in their past who attempted to perpetrate a colossal deception and failed...or succeeded.

Have you ever known a big fat liar? If so, what did they lie about?

Ex wife was/ is an all pro liar

I got divorced from her close to 30 years ago - havent seen nor talked to her since - from time to time I still have her creditors call me looking for her

Biggest one I ever knew was a lady I worked with on a prior job.

Anytime someone had a major illness or a death in the family, she'd go around the entire office - I'd estimate about two to three hundred employees - and take up a collection for them. I generally contributed something myself, depending on how much I had in my pocket (like a lot of folks, I hardly ever carry cash these days).

Heard one day that she had been fired, and shortly thereafter learned that all that money she had collected never actually made it to the people it was supposedly for. She was keeping it herself

That wasn't the reason she was fired though. She had been let go because she kept going out on funeral leave, and apparently one of her "family members" died a couple of times

Given that record, it wouldn't surprise me if she turned out to be Manti Te'o's girlfriend.

There's the old military addage:

If the story starts, "This is no bullshit," or "This is a no-shitter...," odds are it's not the truth.

And I play a lot of golf and rarely listen to guys telling golf stories because the 3-foot putt soon becomes the 16-footer downhill with a hard left to right break...blah, blah, blah...

Golf cheaters are worse than golf liars, and I've been paired with golf cheaters- not fun in the least.

If you know fishermen and golfers, you likely know liars

A guy at my dad's country club growing up was an insane liar when it came to golf. The club would track everyone's handicap and everyone knew this guy sucked but he was always in the single digits. I never understood it, he was one of the richest guys there, drove a Ferrari, huge house, trophy wife, etc, he simply HAD to cheat when playing golf.

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
