Shula promoted to OC

I think 2013 will be a year to try being a fan of NFL in general and follow multiple teams. Panthers have written the year off.

Really? Because of this hiring?

Haha wow why do you even post here again?

Sorry but this is one of the silliest posts I've seen on the Huddle in awhile... And that's saying a lot

Unbelievable. Its almost as if legitimate candidates were brought in to appease the masses when we announced that we wanted to maintain he status quo.

Rivera deserves the firing he will get at the end of next season. Unfortunatley the fans will be the ones that suffer his arrogance.

For the people talking up consistency, Shula has never, ever run a coryell offense before. Jackson has. Just because the guy has worked on the team doesn't mean he's suddenly capable of running a scheme he has 0 experience in. He's never shown he's capable of running any scheme, having failed literally every time he's been charged with running an offense or a team.

It's not a positive attribute to your character that you enjoy watching or participating in failure, nor is it a detriment to mine that I prefer my entertainment to be enjoyable. Shula is one of the worst offensive coaches currently working, and his hiring has caused me to lose emotional investment in the team's 2013 success.

If it's your tradition to eat poo, and I have decided I'd prefer to eat steak, it's not me with the problem.

Shula has a spotty track record as offensive overseer, but this hire wasn't about his track record and past league rankings as a coordinator. It's all about continuity. Being selected over Jackson and Shurmur, Shula will keep the basic elements of outgoing OC Chudzinski's offense in place, boding well for Cam Newton. Shula also has an obvious relationship with Rivera, whose history with new GM Dave Gettleman is minimal. For the sake of the coaching staff, at least, the Shula promotion makes sense.

Why would Shula keep elements in place more than Jackson who actually runs a coryell system, whereas Shula hasn't?

what.

the.

fug.

i honestly didn't think the front office was actually this stupid. this just drained nearly every modicum of hope i had for the couple of years of this franchise. milquetoastery, in spite of public attempts to paint a different portrait, still matriculates through the ranks of this organization from top to bottom.

this is as disgusted as i've been with a carolina panthers personnel decision in a very long time.

So Jackson wanted the job, but we gave it to Shula... LOL

Perhaps Rivera didn't want a former NFL HC waiting in the wings, Jackson has had the "interim" title before.

On the other hand, there are things about this move that make perfect sense and it's not exactly fair to judge Shula based on his work with the Bucs more than a decade ago.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but if we struggle it will be hard to know that we turned away a proven and successful OC like Jackson.

    • Roger all that. Do you think BY avoided any sacks last game? This oline is not what you're touting them to be. They are much better then 2023! Much much much better than 2023. But come on now, you'd expect this expensive oline (most are run blocking specialist) to at least dominate in the run game every game.  And... I keep telling you our WRs and TEs are not that good yet. I mean last Sunday was a prime example. Our receiving targets never make plays like those. Never. And this is from one of the worst teams in the league. Shough could have easily had 3 INTs if not for his receivers making plays on the ball. Our guys just don't do that. XL almost allowed an INT backing up out of bounds instead of coming to the ball. And everyone would have blamed that on BY. That's why he doesn't throw to that dude. I can't recall a game except maybe the second Falcons game - maybe, where I thought our receivers could possibly be better than the other team's. I think TMac and Coker have a lot of potential. But they're aren't consistent. But they're young and WILL improve. I'm confident of that.  I don't agree that BY was drafted to only stand in the pocket. He has always been best off schedule - for better or worse.
    • Do you think you will get a direct answer?  Icky giving up 5 pressures (playing hurt in his defense) by himself and Bryce only getting sacked once tells you he played well in the pocket.  He extended plays and converted some tough downs.
    • I've been very apprehensive about potentially firing yet another head coach. But Canales needs to focus on being a head coach first and foremost and begin handing off some responsibilities like playcalling duties and begin overseeing the entire team or we need to assess all possible ideal HC candidates in the offseason.
