buckethead

and when he plays with claypool... holy poo

bonamassa probably couldn't play quite like buckethead yet buckethead probably couldn't play quite like bonamassa.

joe has some of the best tone around for what he does. an arsenal of vintage guitars and boutique amps helps of course but he's got fantastic technique to go with it.

I have listened to all these guys, save Gary Clark, whom I will now check out, but JB seems to be able to cover the blues and incredible solos and acoustics, sort of the whole package. Guess I would give him the MVP so to speak. On to Gary Clark.....

Yeah, there's little sense trying to compare someone like Derek Trucks to Zakk Wylde or Robin Trower to John Lee Hooker. Each of the axe men mentioned in this thread are pretty damn good in their own right.

I'm not a big fan of Joe Satriani's solo stuff, but he's still an outstanding player. I personally think John Butcher Axis is really underrated and most people have never heard of the guy.

I watched Derek Trucks as a kid and, before he got his own band, play alongside Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule. And if you like Trucks, you might want to listen to his wife, who is also a pretty damn good blues guitarist- Susan Tedeschi.

here's some guitarists some of you purists/non-fans of heavier music may like

After high-school I registered to go to GIT(Guitar Institute of Technology) to play pretty much this exact style of progressive, fusion metal bc I loved Fates Warning and Dream Theater. My best-friend who was the only proficient guitar play I knew that could keep up skill wise decided to back out of moving to L.A. the day we were going to get our airplane tickets.

I had a little tear listening to this. Some techniques I thought I invented(lol) with two hand "Stanley Jordan"- to- metal now is the norm..nice stuff.

But in this thread are all good guitar guys of all styles..however GOAT is definitely not Johnny P of Dream Theater..he is technical and plays nice..but his style just has a soulless characteristic I cannot really describe sorta like Mike Portnoy is to drums. Just because you own a lot of toms does not make you a great drummer.

    • Exactly.  You let him play out next season and continue to develop Thorton.  Jackson’s earned his next contract, but his age and the risk of tying up such a large portion of the payroll at one position leads me to believe that we’ll let him walk. In all likelihood, we’ll draft another CB, or two, and bring in some journeymen to fill the roster void, between now and the start of the 2027 season.  That’ll create more balance financially across the roster enabling us to invest in other areas.
    • As far as the NFCS … I think this division will be hotly contested the next couple of years.   I am tending to pay more respect to both Atlanta and the Saints n terms of how strong they will be moving forward, than not.    I am mixed on Ryan but think they have a decent roster to start with. I don’t think he blundered hiring Stefanski. And that offense can be dangerous with a QB. Plus, defense is arrow up. No 1st round pick, WB issues will dull their effectiveness. Question is, to what degree?   I think Moore is going to be a good HC and can overcome tape that people have on Shough. They need a lot but they were playing with people. Just the way you want to see all the way to the end.    Not sure about Tampa they have Mayfield but I don’t think they can maintain their success and Bowles is not going to last much longer. They have to go through all that. Gonna be tough once it starts. Might already have started.    For us I feel pretty good about Morgan. But less so about our offense, we have some short term RB and OL issues and those things are critical given what we are working with at QB.  Overall, mixed. Like a lot of what I see but some major question marks remain.
    • Absolutely. If we are talking about a 20 year old youngster. He's a grown-ass man, and he doesn't know what his job entails or how to do it? Maybe he will be better next year! It's the Panther way.
