According to Person we're keeping Williams...

I have done a poo ton of research on this cap thing and have been advocating keeping for a long time. Nobody has presented a logical reason(including cap implications) to cut him now. Appearently Gettleman agrees that cutting him now makes no sense what so ever but yet CRA continues his blind hate for D-WIll.

It has nothing to do with Williams if you actually listen to the argument.

It has to do with a limited amount of rushing attempts available....and the money better suited to go toward a player that plays every down.

Then why is Gettleman keeping him?

Like you said earlier it has to be because of the cap. Im not a cap guy by any means. Cutting him probably doesn't make enough of an impact cap wise at this point. The value of keeping him must outweigh the value of cutting him.

I'm not happy about our expensive backfield and I'm not including Tolbert bc hes not expensive, but I am glad that we're keeping D Will. They're different backs and each appears to be the better back when one is used to his strengths. I hope that our offense will play to both of their strenths when they are in the game.

Maybe bc the mess is too big to solve this year....and lameduck Rivera will be just that.

Or maybe old man Gettleman is stubborn and old school. Maybe he is going to give Rivera the wrong bodies like Hurney did to run a modern scheme with Newton. I think that could be a very realistic view. Force Ron into X....

Tough to argue that over the last 2 years....Williams is an a investment the coaches have wanted.

There are holes all over this roster and yet we are still the only team in the NFL that over invests in a backfield (having Cam just makes it more comical).

Why can't you comprehend that not matter how you shake a stick at it, the cost of cutting him is 9.6 million.Spread it over 1 or 2 years and its still 9.6 million. We can keep him for 8.2 million and cut him next year and save money without carrying over dead money into the future.
