Here is article:

I thought all they needed was a year of tape against those guys. Sounds like the NFL, like college, are chasing their tails. Lol

Sounds like the hitting the QB on every play(Parcell's idea) is not the solution. Lol( I don't know why I'm enjoying this so much)

Now, to all those who advocate against the read-option can you explain why again? NFL teams are spending money just to defend it. I don't remember them doing that for the wild-cat. The irony in this is, college is where the read-option is even more unstoppable. Thus, NFL teams are like old folks trying to be hip. Traditional offenses better learn how to score a lot of points because option teams will put up 30-35 per.

I don't remember teams going to college to learn how to defend Brady or Manning. Just saying...

Well, they're a year too late because Chud is long gone.

Um, read option is in Carolina b/c of Newton.....not b/c Chud was here.

Not sure how watching Boyd work the pistol matters...read option is just about discipline to stop it. Also, as far as Newton's running....he is just a mismatch. Studying small kids run ain't gonna help

Anything that is executed well is hard to stop.

The crazy thing is, a read-option team can play an entire game and never execute a read-option play while the defense spend an entire game defending a read-option play.

The only defense to the read-option is to execute it against them and offset each other. The hawks vs 9ers and hawks vs skins were perfect example. The redskins & 9ers both had no answer to wilson thus they capitulated and looked on to the next traditional offense to massacre. Even the Giants' players said they were relieved to face the Saints the following week after facing the redskins.

Also, all you need for the read-option to be considered successful in a game is to pick up a crucial 1st down or an easy TD run to put the game out of reach. It's just a little extra that the opponent doesn't have. The read option doesn't have to beat you throughout the entire game(and it can if undisciplined)

When you have LBs like the falcons do, you aren't going to stop a QB like Cam from running. They just don't have the personnel. Scheme can put a band aid on it at best.

But hey, I hear the falcons are going to sign 2 more high profile DBs.

read option isn't a base offense....wasn't ours.

Chud simply called ineffective games early in 2012....he was questionable to start 2011 as well. HORRIBLE G play also pretty much imploded most of what we attempted. Too much focus on the read option needing to go.....poor G play and playing calling needs to go. Read option will have a home with Newton for years.

read option = play action

Peyton Manning has to use play action b/c he isn't an athlete. Read option for Cam is just a modern day play action for a real athlete.

Great minds think alike.

I mentioned that on this forum long ago. I coined it as the "Play-action run"(instead of play-action pass).

As I said before, NFL teams are like old people trying to be hip. No matter what a mobile QB will hurt you at least twice a game for a big run. Teams use to put a spy on Vick. Now the read option reduce the risk of injury through misdirection. The QB running was and will always be deadly. Combine that with a QB who can throw darts. Forget about it!

It's almost like trying to stop a fake in basketball. No solution, hope he misses the shot.
