Underrated films or films that surprised you.

One of my fav topics is underrated fill in the blank.

So OP. What do you define as underrated and I will share my films that fit.

Underrated are movies that don't get the credit or exposure they deserve by either common knowledge or IMDB ranking/rating. Films that surprise are movies you go in not expecting too much and come out saying "god damn I'm glad I finally saw it."

Underrated

The Ninth Gate - People forget it's a Polanksi film and the story and atmosphere are incredible. Great score and Johnny Depp is perfect for the role of a unscrupulous obsessive douche.

Girl Next Door - So much more than a comedy/romance. Dare I say best "teen/high school dork" film of my generation.

Films That Surprised

Eastern Promises - All star cast but I had heard from multiple people they thought the story was trying to do to much for what it was. I thought it was perfect and the twist was great. Solid acting all around and great score. Vincent Cassell shines as the "let down mafia son".

In Bruges - Now on to what is now in my top 5 movies of all time. I heard this movie didn't know what it wanted to be. Thriller/Comedy/Romance/Drama etc. Some said it was a Tarantino wannabe. While it may have possessed all of these attributes it delivered them flawlessly. The dark humor was so fitting and the city Bruges became a character itself. The score was fuging magnificent and I listen to clips of it on Youtube. Also I've never been a big Colin Ferrell fan so I wasn't expecting much but he was perfect as was Gleeson and Fiennes. Dialog was top notch and I really became lost in the movie. 10/10. Sometimes some critics and people can be very wrong. McDonagh was robbed of an Oscar or two and how is this movie only in the top 5000? Should be sitting proudly in the top 250 on IMDB.

    • These arguments are getting more and more disingenuous from both the pro and anti Bryce crowd. Bryce looked very good for stretches down the final 8 games. He finally showed glimpses of the guy that was projected as a top QB pick in the draft. Bryce also didn't look like a top 10 NFL QB.  I think we are so far removed from Prime Cam that we forget what an elite QB looks like. I could tell that when people were losing their minds and simping for Sam Darnold. This season needs to finally showcase Bryce as a franchise talent. If that doesn't happen, it's time to pivot. There are very few recent examples of QB's struggling or being a mixed bag through the first three seasons of starting and then suddenly becoming frachise caliber players.
    • See that's the thing what I saw in game 2 was so embarrassing id rather they could just forfeit
    • Are you arguing that his height deficiencies and footwork within the pocket have not been a present issue clearly seen on his game tape particularly in the games he struggled in? Because that's simply denying what everyone in this fanbase who have watched the games have seen. It's interesting how hardline BY fans here quickly and effortlessly pivot from whailing about being victimized to becoming the aggressor and hurling out allegations of bias and hatred. And at the end of the day while Bryce Young clearly improved significantly from the first two games of the season the reality of the situation is he still finished 42nd in yards per pass attempt behind Mac Jones and tied with Caleb Williams and 38th in passing yards per game behind the likes of Gardner Minshew Aidan O'Connell Drake Maye and Will Levis. Furthermore it took Bryce Young 23 games to surpass Panthers legend Kyle Allen's 13 games worth of passing yardage in 2019. So if your argument is he became a head and shoulders better passer over the course of the second half of the season the reality is we're still waiting to see that growth this season. And there is nothing controversial or vitriolic about saying so from the mind of a rational observer.
