NFL eases up on restricting crowd noise

As the NFL continues to make games more fun for the fans in the stands, the league is allowing teams to encourage fans to make more noise.

In the past, the league has frowned on attempts by the home teams to rile up their fans to make noise, on the theory that it’s unfair to the road team’s offense to create an atmosphere so loud that they can’t call out their signals. But according to the Associated Press, the NFL is now allowing teams to use video scoreboards to encourage crowd noise at all times.

The league has also said teams can use audio to encourage crowd noise until 20 seconds remain on the play clock. In the past, any audio used to encourage crowd noise had to stop with 30 seconds left on the play clock.

Although TV ratings are very strong, the NFL is concerned that fans are increasingly choosing the home experience over the stadium experience and has been looking for ways to make fans enjoy attending games more. The league is also requiring teams to put cameras in the locker rooms to give fans in the stadium the opportunity to see what goes on before the game and at halftime, and home teams are required to show the best replay angles in the stadium video boards for all plays that may be reviewed.

Louder crowd in BOA?

Pretty much LOL. We never used such tactics in the allowed time before. Too many VIC ads baby!

My first thought was, now that this is a rule, kinda, you would make sure everyone obeyed it. Use his own rule against the Man. Now, I am wondering why you even came to mind? Ungrateful cuss. jk

Oh great, we can now be encouraged to make more noise at the game... But wait, you will have to do so sitting down and do it politely or you will get kicked out. BOA stadium has to be the biggest choir boy fest I have ever seen.

I used to make noise but in BOA, it's really not allowed. After years of going to games and making noise and getting into trouble I now try to contain myself. At playoff games however it's on and those fans don't care.

It's sad that I can go see the Panthers play in away teams stadiums and have the fans their be completely tolerant of my yelling and screaming while BOA is treated like some kind of childrens school play.

My two encounters with BOA have personally been fine, but I've hears far too many stories from far too many people over far too many years to simply dismiss it.

Sadly, Richardson will likely decide this doesn't apply to us.

GOTTA MAKE THE KIDDIES HAPPY!

    • Kalkbrenner and Sion James received regular contracts and not two ways, so the Hornets have some work to do to cut the roster size down.
    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
