Should we sign anyone else or roll the cap space to next year?

Right now we have 41 players under contract for 2014.

Many of them are not guaranteed a roster spot even this year. Such as:

That's 18 right there.

Add in players like Beason, Williams and hangartner who's contracts will likely force them to be cut next year and that brings the total up to 21. ( granted they could restructure and stay).

If none of these players are on the opening day roster we would only have 25 players under contract in 14:

Of course we will not cut everyone mentioned and we should have a draft class of 6 deep in in 14 as well to bring the total to 31 at minimum. Bottom line is we will have roughly 15-22 roster spots to fill for 2014.

For comparison we let 9 free agents walk this year and cut 3 others. We basically replaced those 12 with

7 free agents from other teams and our 5 draft picks.

I'm just wondering if we are better off carrying over any unused cap space from this year to provide us more flexibility in free agency next year.

I agree with that notion, I'm just thinking in terms of taking advantage of the unused cap space rollover rule.

I assume the majority of the signings will be UDFA/camp guys. FA signings don't seem likely barring injuries.

I assume we'll pick up a couple of guys cut from other teams (Vet RG for instance?), and give them a 1 year deal to not tie up space for the future. 

 

If we were going to sign anyone to a multi-year deal, seems likely it would have already occurred.

I don't see us picking anyone up until a couple weeks before the season begins. I think Gettleman really believes his whole the answer is on the roster thing- if he doesn't like what he sees during camp, he'll pick someone up.
