Deangelo Williams Restructures Contract

SCP

Hey JStew, you see what DWill just did?

Get in line behind DWill and restructure.

Oh, and DWill may kick your ass on the field this season.

He already has at the bargaining table.

Step it up.

I think that he just did a restructure on his.

That said, thank goodness this happened.  I hope that we can do something with Beason's deal, but something tells me it's not going to happen.

Let's break it down:

If he is cut/traded

2013: $14M

2014: $10M

2015: $6M

Pay:

2013: Same

2014: Pay cut

2015: Pay cut

So basically deangelo just made himself an career panther!

What is in it for him? He makes more money than if cut and signed elsewhere and becomes almost untradable while helping his team.

Win win

Doubtful this has anything to do with him being a great guy....that is all smoke and mirrors. This is business

I'm not saying he is a great guy for restructuring, he is just a really great guy.

Why????? everybody keep saying loaded backfield, we need 4 running backs that can play, look at the saints they got a loaded backfield and plus 1 of dese running backs going be in the return game and catching it out of da backfield.

Saints didnt pay 2 like featured RBs.

His facebook is awesome.

Half the time it's just him and his cute daughter, but he also posts some funny stuff. I swear I saw pictures of him driving ATVs with a bunch of rednecks last week.

You did, DeAngelo is a self-professed redneck... he bought his daughter a duck call and was showing her how to use it, LOL

good point and good strategy if that is what we were doing.

barner and klein make williams and beason expendable. that's not to say they are as good or better, but both are and will be solid players who would be able to get the job done....and save us money to improve other areas.

i expect beason's contract to be re-done soon.

at this point I'm pretty curious why he hasn't been restructured, or won't sometime in the near future..  quite the cap hit over the years for a guy who hasn't made it onto the field.  He has examples all around him of guys helping the team out.  If anyone, Beason should be next..  However, his may require an entire renegotiation at this point.

Somewhere in this thread it was questioned why DWill would make concessions when he could just stay home and collect a check for doing nothing. That is incorrect. Dwill would have been due nothing had we cut him, and he likely would have been disappointed in potential offers from other teams. So the Panthers had all the leverage and DWill did the smart thing.

I'm glad he's still a Panther and very happy he and Gettleman got it done.

    • Still working on consuming all of these so I don't have summaries available, but I figured there might be another Huddler or three trying to kill time before tonight's final preseason game.   Panthers Blueprint: Training Camp The in-house produced Blueprint series has given behind-the-scenes look on the field and off. Start the day with Robert Hunt's family, be in the morning meetings, mic'd up players during practice (Jaycee, Rozeboom, Icky, and Bryce), roster evaluations by the staff, and plenty of camp highlights capping off with FanFest.   Processing Blue (Mike Kaye & Alex Zietlow Mike and Alex are back talking about a variety of topics including but not limited to: joint practice + preseason game vs. Houston, Trey Hendrickson trade rumors involving Carolina, training camp awards, draft pick draft, and various thoughts about the team.   Jordan & Jake 706: Opening Day Another in-house Panthers' production, the most recent episode of Jordan and Jake talk about how to properly balance intensity in practice, react to the starters being shutdown for the preseason finale, share their thoughts on the newest Panther QB, and more.   Raw Room - Ep 278 - Gas Pedal (ft. Mike Davis) Assistant special teams' coach Darren Bates' Raw Room podcast has former Panthers' RB Mike Davis on his weekly podcast. I'm about halfway through this one and it's been a lot of fun. The Raw Room guys (DB, his friend Alex Sweets, former Eagles/Chargers OT King Dunlap, and former Atlanta DB Jalen Collins) are hilarious and Mike fits right in. They talk about his football experience coming up, decommitting from Florida and how he decided on South Carolina, and more. Warning: If you're the type of person that is easily distracted by accents, despite XL being on the team, you might have issues with understanding the Memphis dialect. If you don't care about how somebody talks, just what they're talking about, tune in!
    • Allen was borderline unplayable in College.  He's an absolute unicorn in terms of his career panning out the way it has.
    • It's a step up in competition as well. The gap in athletic skill is narrowed from what was faced at the college level.
