Do we get any further salary cap relief come June 1?

I think from here we pick up one more ~$1 mil vet FA after TC cuts then roll over the rest for Hardy, or for mid season pickups due to injury.

Change that "or" to "and", we need some money left for the mid season just in case, and I agree.

Question is really, what kind of money is Hardy looking for? $6 is enough this year to give him like a 4 year $40M deal ($20M sign on bonus and $1M base salary in 2013). The problem is really I think that is overpaying him and I have a feeling that Hardy and especially his agent are looking for more.

(Plus that is not considering we push cap hits into the years we need to pay Cam.)

What could have possibly given you the attitude that he's looking for more?  I'm not trying to pick on you, but that is probably the most unfounded feeling I've ever read here.  I'm not saying it's impossible but there has been absolutely no publicized evidence that would give credibility to that, unless you've spoken to him or his agent yourself.  He's made a number of comments lately that "he doesn't really care about the money" and things to that effect.  Sure anyone can say things like that, but if he was really "looking for more" I would guess he and his agent wouldn't say things like that.  It would take away weight to his argument for more when asking for it.

Besides, $10mil a year would be a bargain for a complete DE like him.  There's one-trick pony pass rushers who get more than that.

Quite sure Gettleman won't give CJ money anymore. We wouldn't be able to afford it either. I'm guessing around $6-7M a year if we could sign him now. Wouldn't bring is in a cap hell, and Hardy would get top10-15 DE money. If he gets another great year and hits FA, we'll pay a lot more.

I base the assumption on that his agent ask for an extension at a time when we had pocket change only left on the cap. To me that sound like someone looking for a big pay day and thinking very highly about himself or his client (as at least one other player would have to be cut in order to get this done).

Note: Tag is just a little over $11M for DEs (I thought it was higher) and Hardy is set to make $1.35M this year. That means there is really no rush in re-signing him unless we get a very good deal ($13M over 2 years is still a good deal).

hardy's agent is drew rosenhaus. it's fair to say that rosenhaus is looking to get paid and so are his clients. you wouldn't hire rosenhaus unless you were looking for the payout.

hurney never had any problems with rosenhaus, but that was because he negotiation tactics revolved around his inability to say no.getts probably won't be so loose. I'm hoping that hardy is honest when he talks about how unimportant the money is, but you hire agents to take care of all that stuff for you so you don't have to worry about it. you hire rosenhaus when you want an annoying rabid pitbull to get your money for you. if rosenhaus sees a chance to get paid a poo ton of money, he's going to go after it....and that's what he has in hardy.

I just have a feeling with Drew Rosenhaus as the agent..and CJ being a real contract the Panthers have doled out...This will end ugly for Hardy fans.

If Frank Alexander continues to build on the rookie season he flashed...Hardy will have little leverage and Drew will make Hardy feel offended by any offer less than CJs.

The unfortunate outcome: Falcons or Saints will benefit in 2014 and Hardy becomes our next Peepers(in terms of heatbreak-anger) But it will be within division.

Not what I would want..but with real extentions that will command huge money(Cam) this will cause some tough losses with young guys unless the Belk line really blows up for Cam...he gives a hometown discount?( all signs point to not likley)

JA was a June 1st cut taking his 4.2M dead money with 1/3 counting toward this year (1.4M) and 2/3 counting towards next years cap (2.8M). Cutting him will save 200k out right plus the 2.8M that is deferred to next year... so come June 1st JA is freeing up $3M.

Also, Star and KK are the only contracts that count against the cap right now (total of 2.58M off that ~8.4M) because you only count the top 51 contracts against your cap. Kug, Klein and Barner are below that 51 mark.
