Why is Shula simplifying the offense?

Hell, Oregon/Philly has their's down to random pictures on posterboard.  Who cares what it's called, as long as they all know the play.

Actually, that's not necessarily true... some plays could be from the picture board, but a lot of teams use the picture boards to try and trick the opposing teams defenses.

Let's say you hold the picture board up and it's got the cowboys logo, a banana, a soccer ball, and the letter A. Well a lot of times teams opposing defenses/coaches/teams try to remember the picture board to help them learn an offenses play so if they run it in the future they can stop it... however, some teams will hold the picture board up as a tactic to trick the defense into lining up in the formation of the play that represented that picture board earlier, and then run a completely different play.

We need to have plays that attack the whole field and are designed for what the defense is in.

We should never have all fly / deep routes and nothing underneath. Thats just stupid.

If they are in zone, hit them with the curls, posts, etc in the soft spots.

If they are in man hit them with come backs, drags, posts, curls etc.

This stuff isnt rocket science.

There is such a thing as an overcomplicated playbook. I've seen more than one story about a simplified playbook leading to greater success.

Also worth remembering that Chudzinski's playbook was more than 900 pages, so technically a 600 page playbook would be 'simplified' compared to that. 'Simplified' doesn't necessarily mean 'simple'.

Chudzinski occasionally outsmarted himself. My hope would be that the plays which were examples of that are the ones that go away.

Our 2003 playbook: run up the middle, run up the middle, run up the middle, run up the middle, run up the middle, run up the middle, playaction to Smith or Moose, run up the middle, run up the middle, etc

chad was too gimmicky.

give me some more standard offensive plays that are successful more consistently.

I think we are going to see D'Will and Stewart go crazy this season.  We have the ability to really smash some defenses.

If we get Hixon and Ginn to really step up and become a viable threat on this offense.  Defenses are going to have to pick their poison.

Give me 150-175 per game on the ground and 275-350 in the air..  We will rock.

Well, no poo.  Even on the low side of that we would've been right there with New England for the #1 offense in the NFL last year.  On the high side of your desires, we would've been the #1 offensive team in the league by about a 100 yard margin over the #2 team.  New England led the league in average yardage per game at 427.9.

For reference, we were ranked #12 with an average of 360.7.  We missed being a top 10 offense by a whopping 1.7 yards per game.

And your point???

Or were you just making a NO POO comment to make a NO POO comment?

I know what we were ranked last year and I know we could have been far better had we ran an offense like we will this season.

I still haven't figured out your point.
