Scott Fowler: Wins are Cam's litmus test this year

You're flipping out here and about some inconsequential bit on NFL network simultaneously.

Don't give yourself an ulcer bro. It's not worth it.

I think your version of me flipping out and me writing pissed off words on my keyboard having fun are two different things.

You are passive aggressive. Call people out, talk poo, then act like they are taking poo too seriously. Tell them they are flipping out and need to calm down. But i thought i got the last word two posts ago "bro"

Our defense gave up leads and our special teams were horrid. It's difficult to pin that record solely on him.

Thanks.

I forgot about the Panthers Special Teams (as crazy/hard as that is to believe).

The Panthers have had one of the absolute worst performing second teams; big (or lack of it) play defenses, and--ahem shaky game management head coaches--in Rivera, the past two years. This is before we ever get to talking about Cameron Jerrell Newton.

Of course Cam can use some more improvement in certain areas. He's entering his third year. I'm not going to argue that.

But to place Cam before those other areas, is what I have the problem with. Rivera, Special Teams and the defense, don't have to be fabulous for the Panthers to win. I'm not asking for that; just competency. Can we get that?

Unfortunately, Special Teams, The Defense (think 4th quarter, end of games), and Rivera's game management, haven't been (competent even) for the most part of the past two years. They've been well below standard.

I don't think most fans, from other teams, realize how sorry The Panthers have been in those areas.

I do believe it's a team sport, but like Rivera I believe that Cam is the capstone of the team.

Do you mean cornerstone?

The cornerstone is the stone in the wall that the other stones depend on for support.  It is essential... indispensable.

The capstone is the stone that goes on top for looks and decoration.

Brady with a good defense = 3 Super Bowl wins

Brady without a good defense = 0 Super Bowl wins

Manning with a decent defense (in the playoffs that year anyway) = 1 Super Bowl win

Manning without a decent defense = 0 Super Bowl wins

Rodgers with a good defense = 1 Super Bowl win

Rodgers without a good defense = 0 Super Bowl wins

Brees is the only anomaly, a good QB that won the Super Bowl without a good defense.

On the flip side, mediocre QBs win the Super Bowl all the time if they have great defenses.

His defense wasn't good yardage wise but they were near the top of the league in turnovers forced and scored 8 TDs on defense in the regular season, and forced 5 turnovers in the NFC championship game and of course the pivotal play of the Super Bowl being Tracy porter's pick 6.

Edit: oh yeah bounties too

excuses, excuses, excuses. qb's have always been judged on wins, leadership, and play in crunch time. cam has not stacked up in any of these areas. its amazing luck had 7 fourth quarter comebacks in his rookie season, absorbed 41 sacks, was hit about every time he threw the ball, showed great toughness and leadership skills, and according to most in panther nation he cant play a lick. wow!
