Smitty's OTA observations

Name two guys on the Pats,Ravens,49ers, Seahawks, or the Packers WR corps. Good teams don't need to be loaded. Just need role players.

Sidney Rice & Percy Harvin

Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and James Jones

Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin

The only two that you can argue are Patriots and Ravens and they have Torrey Smith who is one of the best young receivers in the game.  Also the Patriots really isn't a good example because they have two freak TES that they use as WRS...

Boldin while hes been good iis on the decline because of his age. Crabtree is out.

One could argue Rodgers makes his receivers cause they put anyone there and they are fine.

Sidney rices stats are comparable to lafells and he played less games.

Most of these teams really only have one dominant guy and capable others. Kinda reminders me of a certain team I know. Hmmm

Look at the redskins colts bengals and texans. Redskins number one was a number 3 on the colts with manning. The have nobody special. Colts only have an old Reggie and rookies last year. Bengals only had Aj. And texans have Johnson. All those playoff teams have only one dominant guy. Having two while amazing isnt always needed. Giants have two and they didn't even make it to the playoffs. We will be fine

  • What reciever has stood out to you? (Smith) - "A reciever that has stood out to me? Hmmmm... [4 seconds of silence]... the tight ends have been ballin. We haven't been catching too many passes on the outside" Give me a tight end (Smith) - "Greg Olsen.. the tight ends have been killin."

ummm what???

Smitty is wise.  Maybe wise is not the right word.  He is experienced and crafty with his comments for sure.  Give him at least that much.

Back away from the ledge.  WR will be fine and it won't have to be great to win.

..with our backfield it will be stretch, dump pass, read option, stretch, seam for 20+, dump, stretch, down the sideline for a Smitty dance in the endzone.

The three backs and Cam are gonna chew up yards.  The box will get tighter and tighter and then Greg will clean up underneath.  Smitty, Hixon, and Lafell are gonna make hay blocking down field until they communicate to Cam that there is a chance for a double move and bam.  Cam is gonna make the throw.

You mean 2 receptions, 1 yard for 2012 season Ted Ginn Jr is not a ball of fire? What a surprise!

Last year...

Packers have has arguably the most praised and deepest WR corp in the NFL the past few seasons. There was some shakeup this offseason....but they had what many dubbed the best group in the NFL. Most NFL fans could come up with Jennings, Nelson, Driver at a minimum. Cobb and Jones as well.

The Pats are always slightly ahead of the curve. Gronk and Gonzalez are basically recievers, Welker, Elderman, Lloyd, Branch.

Ravens...Boldin and Smith.

The other two are running teams that added mobile QBs on top of it....

I wouldn't say those teams just had role players....outside of the running teams

Steve Smith - still Steve Smith.

lafell - strong, dependable, cutch receiver entering his third year as a pro,. year three is when most receivers really come into their own and have their breakout years. he us a very solid receiver, and i expect this to be his best season yet.

after that, nothing is set in stone, but we still have a lot of talent.

hixon is the most likely to start the season as the third receiver. a very capable receiver at that. runs great routes, great hands.

that's a pretty good group.

IF Gettis is ready to play, he will definitely push for play time. his size and speed is a great combination. while im not getting my hopes up, he could end up stepping up big this year.

Ginn Jr, i don't expect to be a big part if the rotation. although they can easily have packages to get him the ball in space.

a three receiver set with smith, Gettis, and Ginn, puts a lot of speed on the field that any defense would have to respect.

this doesn't even.mention the other young guys. but at this point, i don't see any play time for them anyways.

twin te sets with smith and Gettis could be very deadly also.

none of this mentions the receiving ability of our runnungbacks.

pretty easy to get excited about this group.

if the oline comes together enough to provide decent pass protection, Cam has a lot of weapons/talent at every position around him.

everyone should expect big things from our offense this year. im not saying a top 4 offense, but more than good enough to make quality drives, put points up, be balanced, explosive... a lot of fun to watch.

is it opening day yet?

my bad.

he had a good year last season.

Gettis has prove to be very clutch.

loved how dependable he has become on third downs.

he'll never be mistake fire a speed receiver, but he does have some sneaky speed to him, as he can still find his way open deep at times.

moose was never fast.

it amazes me how much hate lafell gets.

    • All I heard was uber rides, weight trainers, and t shirts??? Maybe some meals too........ What a monster and he should be tossed in a rusty wood chipper!!!1!11!!!!!
    • This is from 5 months ago. It was one or the other. Trade for one or draft one. We apparently called the Jets about Wilson. We also talked to the Seahawks about Metcalf. Drafting our own guy was the best course of action given the required investment. Regardless now is the time for Bryce Young to produce. We are fourth amongst all teams in cap spending on the OL. Back to back first round picks at WR and multiple young TE draft picks now. Very solid and respectable backfield. New pieces across the defense. The time is now.
    • That was just the worst time to have their worst game of the season. One key deal was the broncos guess the Panthers would NOT change any plays or flow to the game. Another key point overlook that bronco defense was truly one of the best in the NFL history. It was the best defense the Panthers faced that year, by far. They were not ready for it, but broncos were ready for the Panthers. Mix in that bad luck, poor refs showcase, and this is the golden boys last game........ Panthers needed to win by 20 and the broncos defense was not going to allow that.  Panthers were the favorites and I believe they also thought that it was going to easier than them destroying NFC playoff teams as they marched to the SB. I've heard darin Gantt say the play calls were to give remmers help, but for some reason the team never did it. During the year they never had that problem, so maybe never practiced giving help via TE/RB, or WR chip. Cam was superman that year, no need for any adjustments...... Until you meet a legendary defense with studs at all levels, Think about it, Peyton was throwing wingless dunks for the whole season, the defense had to carry his corpse to the SB. That's how good they were, not many defense are able to get to the playoffs and win a SB without decent QB play. If you recall the beginning of that defense took Tim Teblows and his non-throwing arse to the playoffs couple years before. That's insane the level of defense needed to overcome.
