tomorrow morning i'm flying to atlanta, then mexico city, then lima, then catching a connector to arequipa, and taking a bus to my final destination - the tiny town of moquegua, in the southernmost reaches of the barren peruvian deserts. i will be doing a series of archaeological site surveys, ceramic analyses, and other miscellaneous work related to archaeological excavation, processing, analysis, and interpretation of the wari empire, a pre-colombian empire that flourished before ultimately being conquered and absorbed by the inca.

i'll be in south america two months. it's just me leaving tomorrow - my wife and baby will be meeting me down there in just over two weeks. it's going to suck, but there's no real way around it due to timing of SSN, passports, immunizations, etc.

since there seems to be an interest in traveling/adventure, i'll periodically post updates to this thread with as many cool photos as i can manage (should be plenty.) internet will be limited so i will not be very active on the huddle until early august, just in time for preseason games :)

love,

    • Will be interesting to see how the Caps adjust. They were thoroughly beaten in this game despite it going to OT and they knew it by getting chippy. If they lose game 2 they’re in a hole they might not be able to dig themselves out of. They played old and tired tonight and I think they might get swept.
    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
