this is an easily answerable question ...uh, because we don't have the talent for that

you keep getting hung up on this "negative/positive" dichotomy when that's never been the issue. The issue has always been declaring us instant contenders when we're not even out of June yet, and your overbearing personality in general on this forum. The Panthers can win this year if they come up with a good scheme and are blessed with the right amount of luck. But they will have to prove that they aren't the same old team they've been for years at this point, which means I've got to wait until September rolls around and actually see them put checks in the win column. But, by all means, continue double-fisting koolaid if that's what you think it takes just to have a positive outlook, skipper.

Simply excelling is not what average or abysmal safeties do when they have a good front seven with them and don't get exposed. Truly good safeties will more often than not cover their zone or successfully eliminate the threat of a long completion when the pass rush is unsuccessful.

You call it Koolaid wtfever and I call yours blantant pessimism.

Declaring us instant contenders? We were a top 10 defense last year with as you would say with a talent strickened defense.  We have added huge pieces to that defense and to assume we will regress defensively is negative as you call my double-fisting koolaid postive attitude.  You continually are hung up on individual play and do not or will not consider the team as a whole.

You say no talent, I would agree in the past we didn't have the talent.  However the players we added I feel, as management does, that these players will fit what we will do.

I will concede you are correct about waiting until September to see.   But as a knowledgeable fan I feel with what we have added defensively our defensive backfield is going to be upper echelon.  That's My Opinion and your negativity attitude isn't going to change it.

Why do you continue to make this a personal attack?  Cause you don't agree with me?  Then again I am not the only one you fire hateful, disrespectful comments to.

Yeah I lash out at those that get pissy over reposting but name calling and insults are apart of it.   You cannot say the same.

Why your "Handle" insinuates insults right? Fresh Bastard altered to appease the mods.

He was asked to move to OL. But yeah its basically because there's no room at DT. I read an article a while back that had Rivera talking about when they were scouting him. It said something to the affect, that Cal coaches moved him from Oline to Dline out of need and not because he wasn't good at the position. Also found it interesting that he was our emergency O-Linemen last season. He could possible be the same this year for the D-Line, if he makes the squad.

Interesting point (except he was at UCLA and not Cal, if I am not mistaken, but no biggie--probably were thinking about Rivera's alma mater) about the emergency lineman. He could be that for the DL as he learns OT.  There is nothing insignificant about a player who can possibly save a roster spot.

Yep its UCLA. Got ahead of myself.

Posted this in the first thread.

"When we were looking at him last year, I called the people at UCLA, and they said the moved him to the defensive line out of necessity, not because he couldn't play offensive line," Rivera said. "Last year when we needed someone because of all our injuries, he was our emergency offensive tackle.

"All offseason, Coach (John) Matsko and Coach (Ray) Brown kept talking about him, and after we drafted a couple of defensive tackles, we realized this could be a great opportunity for the young man. He struggled a little bit today, but he's athletic and very powerful"

lol i'm sure if i named myself fresh bastard none of the mods would bat an eye since a lot more offensive poo gets showcased here. and i don't know what your problem is with people correcting you or calling repost on your threads that it sends you off the edge and makes you start mashing capslock but i find it funny that you rage at it. but besides that, you come off as some preachy know-it-all who really knows nothing at all, and i heat-seek that type of poster. so really the only thing that's going to happen in the future is me undermining you as long as you keep trying to oppress other forum users with your ill-informed opinion. either that or what i recommend is to log off and join thisboardrocks or some other panthers forum with a much lower average IQ, so that you'll fit right in.

I remember when davethepanther told us all that the Panthers wouldn't trade for a top receiving threat, and then after they traded for Greg Olsen, he wrote a long "I told you so" about how right he was...

ah, those were the days....

ill informed?  How am I ill informed.  Cause you say so.  You undermined nothing because your opinion is poo to me and a bunch of other posters.

I OPPRESS?? How is it I Oppress.  My attitude is positive you are the negative one.  You are the one who oppresses.  The only thing I might oppress is posters making a big deal about posting a duplicate post.  Especially, when I pointed out I tried.

SO, GFY

I have been apart of this forum since its inception.  So once again. Your petty threats mean nothing to me. You haven't answered on point I have asked you.  Why cause you try to dodge the question and spew your garbage.  Just continue to flap your lips like you are the know-it-all and clearly you don't.

Don't worry Bro...  I will not back down to your petty threats.

So as I said before

No, I never said Top Receiving threat.  I said WR.  That was when we had Gettis and LaFell returning from their rookie season and before Gettis got hurt.  Everyone was saying we should find a Top Tier receiver.  I said we wouldn't because JR had Hurney dump all the veterans.  I said NO WAY were we going to sign a top tier receiver.

I NEVER SAID anything about a Tight End.  I loved the trade and was 100% behind it.

I love the bandwagon buddies going on here.   All of you can kiss my @$$.

for years you have been wrapped up so tight on here who can't help but question you because every time you blow up..  every time, without a doubt.

it's not just about reposts..  it happens on really anything.  I'm ashamed to admit it's quite entertaining.  You take everything so personal.  I'm often quite amazed and wonder what's really going on.

but anyhow, Olsen was/is our WR..

Every time?? Not even close.  Occasionally when other attack me, yes I fight back.  I don't call others idiot, stupid, retarded, ill informed or WTFever until provoked.  You go back and look at my rants and I admit I get pissed but never on opinions of others until they attack me.  Insults regardless of there intent piss me off.

Sorry...  Olsen is a TE not a WR. Different Skill set.  I would not have argued one iota if he entered the discussion.  We had a flock of mediocre TEs who had their limitations.  Olsen was one of the players I wanted when he came out of Miami.

Just because you buy into the panthers' annual summer upselling frenzy does not make you this giant vagina squirting out hope and foresight of success.

    • Give me Mitchell Evans over T Sanders in this run heavy offense any day of the week.
    • What's up gents, the OGs remember me, the guy who single-handedly gave the Panthers the greatest uniform in history moniker. Not too long after that I got involved with Pro Football Focus (pre-Collinsworth acquisition) and ended up taking backseat here to preserve some objectivity. But from a distance I noticed a lot. After the end of the Cam era this place devolved into the most un-fun, petty, negative cesspool of whining and bitching that has ever graced the internet. The worst part of it all is that the level of discussion turned into the most ill-informed, hot-take, unnuanced crap, rife with people talking out of their posteriors as if they have any clue about what they are watching. Once you get into the professional side of the sport and actual film rooms, you start to understand there's an absurd number of moving parts to pretty much every snap and the details you are privy to are truly only half the picture. The absolute most important thing I learned from being part of professional level football analysis is that quarterbacking is literally the most intricate and difficult position in all of professional sports, and that the NFL itself is struggling to develop any workable model that allows them to understand what makes one succeed vs what makes one fail. Because of this paradox it has also made the quarterback position itself grossly overvalued from a fan and media standpoint, creating an absurd fixation on the results delivered by a single player who has to rely on the contributions of everyone around them. This also drives the dreaded inflation of QB salaries that inevitably cause even elite teams to lose key talent all to pour cash into the one player supposed to be able to single-handedly elevate the entire team (and defense and special teams and coaching and ownership by some mysterious proxy), yet without those same players even talented teams can wander the wilderness searching for the right guy to take advantage of their talent window. The discussions the last few years around Bryce has personified this insanity, as this board has devolved into some sort of electronic civil war between the hyperbolic Young supporters and the vitriolic Bryce haters. The reality, like practically everything in this world, is somewhere in the middle. He has traits that can absolutely elevate a team with creativity, play recognition, off-arm angle throws, mental toughness, etc. He's also physically limited, with mostly "good-enough" qualities for most situations that a professional quarterback is asked to do, and will never be an overpowering physical force like pre-injury Cam. But "good-enough" physicality represents a large majority of championship-winning quarterbacks, even in the modern era. There's a reason the corpse of Peyton Manning took the chip from elite physical specimen Cam, because the team surrounding him was talented enough to get him there, while we all know Cam was the driving force of that 2015 team. That's no knock on him, that's just how the game of football tends to work: the more complete team usually wins. The summary is this: if this team lives or dies solely on the performance of its quarterback, then it is absolutely a paper tiger even if he plays brilliantly week in and out. There are no superheroes in this sport, there are only conduits that proxy the collective efforts of much of the team around them. And no one alive can tell you how the position is played perfectly, it's all a confluence of circumstance and what unique collection of traits each player brings to the position, which can never be truly recreated season after season, even for the same player on the same team. If this place remains a raging hellscape of idiotic hot takes I will happily remove myself again and do something more productive for yet another decade, but maybe's there hope that we can all get back to the old adage, and keep pounding.
