Frank Scwhab: Cam Newton’s greatness is being overshadowed by a lot of needless criticism

Why in the fug did I scroll down to the comments section of a fuging Yahoo article... why?

The majority of the group that comments on those articles are the lowest common denominator of the human population--and that's being generous.  Once in a while you stumble across a comment that doesn't look like it was typed by a 13-year old gang-banging crack baby with Down's syndrome... but goddamn it's rare that ever happens.

You should be required to take a damn IQ test before you're allowed to comment on those articles...

But yeah, great article nonetheless.

Everyone blasted Newton for the comment after the Giants game.  But, the man was right,  Something has to change, he saw it far sooner than the actual change happened.   How frustrating it must have been for the leader of the offense running plays that just aren't working.  No wonder he was forcing big plays.

Yeah the pouty face on the sidelines is probably not the best way to go about it.  The man wants to win and the garbage that Chudz was feeding him, for a lack of better word, SUCKED.

Luck is and has been a media blitz since he was at Stanford.  Greatest thing since sliced bread.  Son of a NFL QB, well kinda sorta. OLIVER LUCK.   I am surprised they aren't making the mold now for his bust at Canton.

RGIII is in the perfect offense for his talents.  WCO.  Great % but not much downfield.  Runs far too much and WILL Get hurt again.

The best rookie from 2012 was Wilson.  To me this guy is mobile and smart.  Runs when he needs to and makes plays.  Kind of reminds me of an athletic Fran Tarkington.

But as a poster said earlier.  When we start winning it will be because of anyone but Cam.   He'll have stellar numbers but they'll give the credit to Shula or our running backs.

Superman dance is ok with me... Do your thing and keep smiling.

We got your back.

Does nobody remember why Cam was a lighting rod in the first place? He became a poster boy for the paying of athletes in college football. That was added to the laptop incident in Florida, and viola the media has a narrative.

Is there a racial component? Absolutely. But I think a lot of it just has to do with perception momentum. Most people who had heard of Cam had already formed an opinion based on the press coming out of college. Personally I didn't like the guy before we drafted him because all I heard about him was negative (and I got to watch him stomp the Gamecocks). So a lot of people's perception of Cam was already set, and most non-Panther fans are going to take the time to learn any different. He didn't do himself any favors by taking losses so hard his rookie season.

So watch, if he starts winning games, the narrative will change. And if wins us a Superbowl, they'll all say how he's redefining the QB position, and they knew it all along; he just needed to 'mature'.

this is the part that always gets me: that's he's some kind of top of the heap scumfug for allegedly getting paid to play.

unless you're watching division III football or something, you're cheering for players who are getting under the table benefits if not outright getting paid every saturday.  especially if you're a fan of a major SEC program like most football fans in the south.  that poo was even going on at appalachian state when i was there in the mid 2000s.  players were obviously getting hooked up with jewelry and cars but everyone looked the other way because they were bringing titles home.

Dude, you don't understand... EVERY team cheats.

Except for MY team.

Every other team is dirty.

My team is as clean as driven snow.

It's axiomatic. ;)

Would you like Cam if he wore a different jersey? Not would you feel differently about him, but would you like him? I dont think I would.. I would probably buy into the media's spin on him. But he wears a Carolina jersey so I love his demeanor, regardless. I am a Panther fan, thats what I do...

This is what I liked from the article:

Does Newton need more work on his accuracy, and overall game? Sure. Here's the list of quarterbacks who needed a good amount of work after two NFL seasons: Every quarterback who has ever played. Newton is 24. He'll get better.

No way but up....
