I'm trying to find a Tbox slant for this....

but giant human controlled robots fighting giant monsters.....I'm in!!!!

 

i just get tired of seeing fighter jets doing fly-bys....why would they ever get within a miles of the target i don't know. Strafing the target with guns?....looks cool but it is a pet peeve of mine in films.

And here, I submit, is the mark of great director:

 

Last night, gf and I are watching TV. Trailer for Pacific Rim comes on. We watch for 30 seconds. Trailer ends, and gf remarks how fugging stupid it looks, and she has no interest in seeing it. Shrugs her shoulders at the pathetic offering of summer movies. In the rant that follows, the names "Battleship," "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" get bandied about. I tell her generally I would agree. However, I am still giving the movie a chance because the director isn't Michael Bay, it's not a Jerry Bruckheimer productions; it's Guillermo del Toro. Her eyes go wide, she stares blankly back at the TV, obviously playing the trailer over again in her head, except now taking into account the GDT slant. She remarks, "I must admit I'm slightly intrigued now." Within another minute we have already decided that we are locked in to see this movie.

 

And that's when I realized that GDT is an amazing director, if not the best director working today. No other director could do that, I think. No other director could make you look at a movie that looks like total trash, and then totally change your opinion of if because of his name alone. Not Spielberg, not Scorsese, not Allen. No one else could convince me wholesale that a movie that looks like crap is actually worth seeing. No one else would I give the benefit of the doubt. Only Guillermo del Toro.

 

He doesn't make the best movies. He doesn't make the highest grossing movies, but he's got a rare skill; the ability to bring you into his imagination and let you crawl around in there for a while. And I can't wait to see what he throws at us next.

that's weird because I felt the exact same way when I first saw the trailer, then my friend told me del Toro was directing and I completely changed my thoughts on the movie

probably the only movie i'll bother seeing in the theaters this summer

 

another director that could do this flick and i'd go see it in a heartbeat is christopher nolan (but i didn't watch inception cuz its dumb)

 

but yes, this concept by any other directors in hollywood is absolute traaaaaash

      And, yes, I've been a slow boil, but watching continually watching shitty displays of football for weeks has me frustrated.

      Bryce just didn't maximize Hunter Renfrow's skills. ***rant incoming*** But this isn't just about Bryce Young mistiming passes to Renfrow so bad that he's going to get Renfrow killed or hurt, this is also about incompetentence by Dave Canales. Renfrow can still play. He's putting DBs in a blender out there---making them play twister at the top of routes to keep up with him, and dumb Dave has the nerve to cut him. How about putting Hunter in the best position to help the damned offense by appreciating his skill set, DC? You're letting Bryce's apparent inability to make an accurate throw, or at least his timidity to push the ball down the damned field cloud your judgment and miscalculate talent---or maybe just miss on talent just as much as Bryce misses passes due to playing pussified football. It's fúcking unacceptable.  Speaking of misjudgment, I don't know if it's Dan Morgan or Canales, but Eijiro Evero is not the business at DC. I have said a few times that his scheme is not conducive to run-stopping efficiency. Hell, and after watching some clips of plays, now I absolutely know why. The gaps are at least half open before the play even fúcking starts. You are setting the opposition's RBs up for success with too much damned space at the line and in the second level. If our guys are taken out in these areas---at the line and in the second level---then the defense is screwed because it must rely on the safeties to cover too much ground to make the tackle. At least put Ransom in who is motivated to seek and destroy if you're going to effectively leave the safeties on an island.  And speaking of rookies, get our two new defensive ends more snaps to see if we can't generate more of a pass rush. For all the good the continued sorry display of defense that you're putting out for fan's to see (Ejiro, Dave and Dan), you may as well get the rookies generously involved. Fúck that money we gave second-rate (maybe second-rate) vets, we need a damned spark getting after the QB. Watch it, it's just another breakdown of the sh¡t we were subjected to last week. I say this with all respect: Fúck you, Dave! Fúck you, Dan! Learn how to run a fúcking franchise. Maximize the players, regardless of what you think you're supposed to do by the book. Cut the dead weight before another season is lost and fans lose interest in September. EE is "Ew!" Or for emphasis "EEw!" /end rant

      But nobody is saying he is a good deep ball passer.  But the facts are since he's returned from his benching, he has been throwing downfield.  Whether you want to credit the scheme, Bryce himself, or whatever, he has been pushing it deep.  Not to any positive results mind you, but it has been happening.
