Pat Yas on Panthers TC, thus far. (Do read!)

When the Carolina Panthers end a training camp practice, there’s a universal yell from the fans.

“Cam!" they shriek.

It’s an attempt to get quarterback Cam Newton to come sign autographs. It’s also a reminder that Newton’s popularity is greater than that of the 89 other players in camp combined.

“Imagine what it would be like if we win," a team employee said on a recent day while fans yelled Newton’s name.

A lot of people rip on Carolina’s receiving corps and say it has no depth beyond Smith. I have to disagree with that after watching the Panthers in camp. I think Brandon LaFell is a much better No. 2 receiver than he gets credit for. I also think reclamation project Ted Ginn Jr. might pay off because he has elite speed, and Domenik Hixon gives the Panthers a steady veteran backup.

I’m not sure the Panthers are sold on their depth on the offensive line. They’re taking a look at some young backups now, but I think they could look to add a veteran or two.

Mike Mitchell looks like he can fit nicely at strong safety. Captain Munnerlyn and Drayton Florence aren’t household names, but they’re smart veteran cornerbacks and they seem to have the edge on youngsters Josh Norman and Josh Thomas. Still, it remains to be seen how this secondary will match up in a division that includes wide receivers such as Roddy White, Julio Jones, Marques Colston and Vincent Jackson.

I enjoyed Yas's perspective, though his mouth is not a prayer book.  There seems to be a real reason for some optimism this year.

Last quote is very encouraging, especially if they do look to a vet.

This seems to be a universal theme, now.

A positive universal theme is that the Panthers will have to find some type of way to get Barner on the field. Yas is in that number:

Sixth-round draft pick Kenjon Barner is going to have an impact on this team in some way. The backfield is crowded, and the Panthers have plenty of other options in the return game. But Barner has explosive quickness, and I think the Panthers will find a way to get him on the field.

Pat is a good guy. He doesn't deserve the crap given to him on here. Of all the reporters I have met, which is all of them, he is the one I respect the most.

I agree wholeheartedly.  I like Sorenson also.  Person is a little...shall I say, sketchy.

I am Glad Gantt is gone. He was never a fan. He needed to be national.

Yas seems to really care for the cats, but will still tell it like he sees it in a professional and entertaining manner. This is what reporters are supposed to do (unlike what some may believe).

Based on all the reports out of camp, this seems to be an accurate portrayal of how things stand right now.

Either he is culling his comments from the Huddle, or he actually is a member of the media that knows what he's talking about.

He probably is the nicest person but I think Gantt did his job better than anyone else.

Gantt just about shows his stripes regarding the Panthers every time he mentions the organization (and, yes, that is purposeful exaggeration on my part).  There is a kind of condescending undertone to his sentiment when it comes to the Panthers. I don't like it, and I don't respect it.

pat makes person look like a middle schooler when it comes to professional reporting, Yas gets flack whenever he says anything negative about the panthers, but he's right more often then not.

Yas and Gantt have always been my two favorites even though Gantt can get a stick up his ass from time to time.

Good read

“The thing that I really admire about Cam is, even through all the adversity and even through all of the stuff the media has tried to create that’s not true about him, he’s done a really good job of weathering those storms," Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil said.

I get unreasonably frustrated when I hear other people say he has maturity issues or he has no leadership skills.

Why are theses people going off of a fugging article written to bash cam from damn near last year.

    • They definitely shied away in part of Deion and the hype machine. Hell, even the Browns' football people didn't want him. Just look at the faces in that room as the pick was being announced. LOL  But honestly, Shedeur checks all the boxes of guys who put up big numbers in college but don't project well to the NFL. QB friendly pass happy offense. Bad defense that forces the team to chase points. Weak schedule. Marginal measurables and talent. I mean, let's be honest, what plus physical traits does he have at the NFL level? Size? Below average. Arm? Below average. Mobility? Average. Then you add in the Travis Hunter factor of an all world athlete being your primary target. Finally, you have to look at his playing style. He basically plays like Johnny Manziel. There's pretty much only two guys who have made that style of play work for them in the modern era and that's Favre and Mahomes and they both have absolute cannon arms. Caleb Williams has that cannon and he's still struggling to make it work. Yeah, the Deion circus hurt him but when you objectively look at his NFL projection then combine it with the reports that he handled the whole pre-draft process extremely poorly it's not a shock he fell to the 5th. If his name was Shedeur Johnson instead of Shedeur Sanders there wouldn't have been this massive hype train around him. The media hype misled a lot of people regarding his NFL projection. He basically projects as a backup and the last thing you want out of a backup is a circus. Their fault or not, that's why guys like The Golden Calf of Bristol, Kaepernick, and Cam never carved out careers as backups.
    • *disclaimer, no need to tell us what happened in the end, just quit watching after he gets the Mountain on the ground.  I mean, he technically beat him.  Renfrow isn't cocky enough to then get leg swept and then have all that other stuff happen to him.
    • Well, it seems a little confusing, but I guess not: I guess they're thinking that we're going to the way that our receivers go. Barnwell just ranked us 31 at the (so-called) offensive skill positions. ESPN just doesn't think that much of the Panthers. I wonder if it was the O-line that bumped us up one spot, because they obviously don't think that much of our safety position, or our pass-rush. In any event, there should be ample enough bulletin board material here for the team.
