Hardy wants to get paid.

Some people interchange game manager with pocket passer me thinks

When you throw the ball 20-25 times a game on average, you're a game manager. When you throw the ball 30-40 times a game, you are on a team that is built around throwing the ball.

QB's that throw the ball 20-25 times a game with very good TD/Int ratio's and high completion percentages are good game managers....and those who don't are bad ones. Rex Grossman - bad game manager, Joe Flacco: Good Game manager. Drew Brees: Good Pocket Passer.

Hell Andy fuging Dalton threw the ball more than Joe Flacco did last year and he's the very definition of Game Manager.

Flacco is very good at what he does, but he's not a featured QB for that offense, he's an exceptional game manager who's used to keep the defense honest and to throw out of a run-designed offense in order to continue to move the football.

Here's the difference - In New Orleans, they design the offense to allow for Brees to throw as much as possible, same thing in New England and Greenbay.....the Ravens offense is designed to make the QB throw as little as possible as is required to continue to the flow of the offense: IE game management.

looking at the gif from last night in your signature, Wes Horton blew up his man to help Keek get in the backfield. If he and Frank can continue to improve, then maybe Hardy would be let go

I noticed that too a few minutes ago.

Having quality DE's stacked up like cord wood wouldn't be a particularly bad issue to have.

Hardy would be stupid if he didn't seek to get paid big. You have to understand that you can play a few years and you need to get as mush as you can. Teams will cut you without giving it a second thought. It would be great if he stayed a Panther, but you have to understand that they aren't fans.

Those are exactly game manager type statistics.......

those are far from game manager type of stats. during the regular season he avg 33 throws a game, with the lowest being 8 because he got pulled in the final regular season game. his highest attempts was 51. that is far from a game manager QB.

Not arguing whether or not Flacco is a game manager, but using what you are saying Flacco isn't one. He has averaged less than 30 throws a game once and that was his rookie year. His second lowest attempts was 489. Divided by 16 games that's 30.5 throws a game

Talking about Cam is off topic, but let me say this.  Anyone thinking Cam is going to get a hundred million dollar contract next year or soon afterward with the current resume he has, is fanatical.  For what has been accomplished so far, it would be lenient to give Cam the same contract Drew Brees got when he first came to New Orleans.  A 6 year 60 million dollar deal.  In order to get into the 100 million dollar club, you have to win at least one superbowl.

With all that said, if Cam has a sub-par year and we go 8-8, I would consider trading Cam next year if I believe I had the opportunity to get a more capable QB.  I love Cam, I'm on record of saying he has the ability of being a surgeon of a QB.  Yet I'm not going to wait 10 years into his career before he becomes one of the best QBs in the league.  Everyone remember Vick's season his first year as starter of the Eagles. (It was either 2010-2011)  Vick had his best year as a QB, and after that Redskins game where he had a perfect game, I said at that point he was the best QB. (Of course he tailed off that year)  The thing is, even if he continued to play like that from then to now, it took him almost 10 years to reach that point.  My fear concerning Cam when we drafted him, was how long it would take him to be a great QB.  I'm not willing to wait that long.

I was just using general figures, he's on the top end of the measurement, but the offense design still puts Flacco as a game manager and not the featured threat of the offense.

The problem is that people interchange "Game Manager" with "Bad Quarterback" and that's not the case. There are very good game managers and then there are shitty QB's.

Horton is playing big time this preseason, and he jacks up McKinnie on that play who is a big strong guy. not bad for an UDFA rookie. before the last college season he was projected to be around a 3rd or 4th rounder.

The love child of Joe Montana and Dan Marino would get killed behind our current line. The team record has more to do with the team then just the QB

I agree trading Hardy would be ideal, but we would have to franchise tag him for that to happen (unless we are talking about trading him before the deadline this year, in which case I think ultimately depends on our record + we likely wouldn't get much in return due to his lack of a long term contract unless a deal was agreed to/in place before trade) and that is a risky road to take.

With Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short, both of whom I am already willing to say will be very good defensive tackles (especially Lotulelei, and I am in no way basing this off his preseason game but rather the fact I have always loved him as a player; same with Short and his pass rush ability), even if Hardy isn't asking for too much, I am not sure re-signing him with the rest of the holes we have to fill is the smart move as we would already have a very formidable defensive line.  Sometimes, good players just have to walk  and for the better.

maybe i read more interviews than you do. where cam states i finally have realized i can't do this by myself. you get into the pros and everybody is on your level. everybody is an all american, everybody has won awards. these are the elite and i can't do it by myself.

well zod, i just flat out disagree with you. could he leave? yea it could happen. but it would be at the detriment of this football team imo and i don't think Cam would leave for more money if we have a contender here. Cam is not Hardy.

but i'm done with this discussion because this is all speculation and i'm riding a high right now from a great game from our Defense.

problem with that logic is Hardy straight up said he isn't worried about money and told fans not to worry that it'll get worked out...  so if you don't believe Hardy then it's hard to believe Cam since all we see are interviews from guys only telling you what you want to hear..

and "I can't do this by myself" doesn't necessarily mean he's talking about why he can't leave the Panthers.  Lebron and Dwight Howard come to mind.  That happens too.  "I can't do this by myself" can easily turn into "I need you guys to get your poo together, get me help."

Now I think both have different traits that will keep them here and doubt they will leave.  All we can do is see what's being said when that time comes, but at the same time predicting what an athlete could do from interviews is speculative at best.

I wouldn't be shocked to see it happen to any athlete if they stop buying into the system.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
