Hardy extension in the works

You guys who want to trade him..

Its better if we sign him to a deal and then trade. We'd get more for that. Its less attractive for other teams when they are trading for 1 year's worth or Hardy. If we sign him to a deal, they trade for multiple years worth. Don't be mad about signing him to a contract.

At the end of the day, I want The Kraken here. I see the value in good DE's and its worth the money at that position.

The dude is 100% looking for guaranteed money. Any signing bonus we give him would have to ate on our end. Making it a terrible idea. Now if we wanted to give Rosehaus permission to negotiate a contract with other teams and trade him then that would be plausible...Granted it seems unlikely at this point.

Contracts can be structured anyway we want.  We can give him a smaller signing bonus but totally guarantee the salary for this year thus reducing any dead money that may be on the end of contract.   It can be done and not hurt us long run.

Every player plans for unexpected injuries. Why do you think they hate being franchised and always prefer multiple year deals?

Multiple years generally means more money as non valuable players generally have short year deals with little guaranteed.

Players want to make the most money they can. You dont do this by signing for less than your worth. Esp at such a critical point in your career. ie young and on the verge of breaking out.

Why all this talk about trading Hardy when we can cut CJ before the 2015 season and save 10 Million in cap space. If Alexander is ready to take over for CJ he will have a year to audition for a new contract.

i don't know about cutting him, but you raise an excellent point. assuming hardy continues his ascension developmentally, it makes far more sense to trade CJ for picks a couple years down the road when he's a few years from leaving the league and replacing him with young talent. this is how successful teams do it.

in 2015 CJ will be 29 years old and a 16 Million cap hit, thats a big number that the team can get rid of and save 10 Million on the cap.
